The Phoenix Suns, seeking guard depth amid injuries to Damion Lee and Josh Okogie, are reuniting with a familiar face.
Former Sun Isaiah Thomas, striving to make an NBA comeback with the Salt Lake City Stars, has agreed to a 10-day contract with Phoenix.
It’s not clear exactly when Thomas will sign,” notes Charania. The Suns face the Bucks on Sunday, and then they have three days off before a slate of six games in 10 days.
The Suns may want to time the signing to fit with him maximizing his time with the team over that run of six games.
Thomas, aged 35, showcased his scoring prowess in four games with the Salt Lake City Stars, notching 30+ points each time. Despite his last NBA appearance dating back to 2022, Thomas’ diminutive stature at 5’9″ makes him a defensive liability but adds depth crucial for the Suns’ playoff push.
Having previously played 46 games for the Suns in 2014-15, Thomas was overshadowed by guards Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe, leading to his trade to Boston where he enjoyed his career peak, earning multiple All-Star nods. Despite subsequent NBA stints, Thomas has relentlessly pursued his NBA return.
With a tight race in the Western Conference, the 39-28 Suns are vying with the Kings and Mavericks for the 6-8 seeds, all within a game of each other. They trail the Pelicans by 1.5 games for the No. 5 seed and hold a three-game lead over the No. 9 seed Lakers.
