In a cinematic victory, “HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle,” the inaugural segment of the Haikyu!! FINAL Duology has not only reclaimed the top spot at the box office but has also crossed the remarkable milestone of 6 billion yen in Japanese cinemas.
The news follows a weekend filled with a special theatrical gift and an engaging stage event.
As of March 10, the sports anime film has amassed an impressive 6.2 billion yen (approximately US$41.44 million) in revenue, driven by the sale of 4.38 million tickets.
This phenomenal achievement also places the movie at the pinnacle of the Japanese box office for the year, surpassing the last recorded box office number of 6 billion yen for “SPY x FAMILY Code: White” on February 19.
While “Forger’s” continues its theatrical run in Japan, confirmation of the year’s top-grossing film awaits the revelation of SPY x FAMILY’s box office numbers for the past month.
Toho Animation spearheads the production of both installments of the Haikyu!! FINAL anime films, with the skilled team at Production I.G, ensuring the animation quality.
The creative lineup includes Susumu Mitsunaka as director and screenwriter, Takahiro Kishida as character designer, and Takahiro Chiba as chief animation director.
The debut film, titled “HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle,” premiered in Japan on February 16, 2024, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the yet-to-be-announced release date for the second part.
Haikyu!! initially graced the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump from February 20, 2012, to July 20, 2020, encompassing 402 chapters compiled into 45 volumes.
The entire manga series is available in English on the Shonen Jump app.
Crunchyroll, the streaming platform, offers fans the opportunity to relish all four TV anime seasons of the Haikyu!! adaptation. The anime, adapted from Haruichi Furudate’s original manga, narrates the slice-of-life sports journey of Shoyo Hinata and his passion for volleyball.
The storyline unfolds as Hinata assembles a volleyball team, driven by a determination to surpass his formidable rival, Tobio Kageyama, who unexpectedly becomes his teammate in high school.
