MBC’s upcoming drama “Chief Detective 1958” reveals a new poster, providing a glimpse into the anticipated prequel to the iconic series “Chief Inspector.” “Chief Detective 1958” serves as a precursor to the classic Korean series “Chief Inspector,” which garnered significant acclaim during its 18-year run from 1971 to 1989.
The new drama will be set in 1958, predating the original show by exploring the story of Park Young Han (Lee Je Hoon), a fervent detective with the highest arrest rate for petty thieves. Together with three charismatic colleagues—Kim Sang Soon (Lee Dong Hwi), Jo Kyung Hwan (Choi Woo Sung), and Seo Ho Jung (Yoon Hyun Soo)—they aim to challenge the prevailing corruption norms.
The recently unveiled main poster captures the essence of 1950s Seoul, featuring the four detectives strolling through the streets of Jongro. The backdrop includes a tram, handwritten signboards, and a vintage atmosphere, setting the scene for the era.
Accompanied by the text, “In an era of barbarism, a humane investigation drama by real detectives,” the poster hints at the collaborative efforts of the passionate detectives, poised to create a new chapter in history.
The production team expresses confidence in the optimal lineup of Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung, and Yoon Hyun Soo, inviting viewers to anticipate the differences from the original series. They also tease the exciting chemistry among the detectives at Jongnam Police Station, each possessing distinct personalities and abilities.
MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama, “Chief Detective 1958,” is scheduled to premiere on April 19 at 9:50 p.m. KST, promising audiences an engaging journey into the world of investigative drama.
