Donald Trump is actively seeking financial support from Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, in his campaign against President Joe Biden for the White House. The two reportedly held a meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, attended by affluent Republican donors.
On March 2, private jets belonging to both Trump and Musk were observed landing at a Palm Beach airport within an hour of each other. The tracking of these jets was reported by “Elon Jet,” a Twitter leaker and tracker, sparking speculation about the nature of their meeting.
The question now arises whether Musk will extend his financial support or endorse Trump for the 2024 presidential race. Despite having engaged with the White House previously, Musk did not meet with President Biden during his last visit in September 2023.
Musk’s past interactions with Trump’s administration have been mixed; he withdrew from two business advisory councils in 2017 in response to Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.
Trump’s relationship with Musk has also seen its ups and downs. In 2022, Trump labeled Musk a “bull**** artist” but claimed that Musk privately admitted to voting for him. However, Musk vehemently denied this assertion, stating that his first vote for a Republican candidate was cast in a special election in Texas in the same year.
Musk’s considerable fortune of $200 billion could significantly impact Trump’s campaign, potentially countering Biden’s substantial campaign reserves.
Despite Musk’s historically nonpartisan stance, his recent comments on immigration policy, labeling it as “treason,” have raised concerns. His cautious approach to government alignment and his companies’ federal interests suggest a complex political landscape for potential support.
