Sand Land: The Series serves as an anime adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s short manga series, “Sand Land,” originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from May to August 2000.
Having already inspired an anime movie adaptation in August 2023, the series is expected to bring a fresh perspective with added elements and excerpts from the film.
The official team disclosed that the premiere will unfold with the release of the first seven episodes on both Disney Plus’ STAR Anime Series programming slot and Hulu in the USA.

The much-anticipated “Sand Land: The Series” is set to debut on March 20, 2024, as confirmed by the anime’s official team on March 4, 2024.
In addition to this exciting revelation, the announcement brings news of two new cast members and offers insights into additional content incorporated into the anime.

Following this initial release, subsequent episodes (from Episode 8 onward) will follow a weekly schedule every Wednesday.
The initial six episodes, labeled as the “Prince of Demons” arc or “Akuma no Oji-hen” in Japanese, will revisit scenes from the anime movie, meticulously re-edited into episodic format.
This arc promises not only the cinematic experience of the film but also additional footage to enhance the narrative.
The later episodes (7-13) will introduce a new arc titled “Tenshi no Yusha” or “Angelic Heroes” in English. This arc, set in a location named Forest Land conceptualized by Akira Toriyama, adds a layer of novelty to the series.
A specially drawn illustration by Toriyama himself accompanies the announcement, providing a glimpse into the imaginative world of “Sand Land: The Series.”
The cast welcomes new additions, with Mikako Komatsu, renowned for her role as Maki Zen’in in Jujutsu Kaisen, portraying Anne, a character hailing from Forest Land embarking on an adventure with Beelzebub and friends. Ayumu Murase joins as Muniel, an angel character claiming hero status in Forest Land.
Returning cast members from the anime film include Mutsumi Tamura as Beelzebub, Kazuhito Yamaji as Rao, Cho as Thief, Satoshi Tsuruoka as General Are, and Nobuo Tobita as General Zau.
Directed by Toshihisa Yokoshima, with Hiroshi Kojina as the direction adviser, “Sand Land: The Series” boasts a stellar team, including scriptwriter Hayashi Mori, sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami, and composer Yugo Kanno.
