There are many twists and turns in Netflix’s “Mea Culpa,” as a lawyer who chooses to defend a well-known guy who is suspected of killing his fiancée finds himself trapped in a web of lies and secrets.
Mea keeps delving deeply into the enigma before her even as she struggles with her marriage being destroyed. She decides to go to any lengths to expose the truth, realizing that it has the power to make or ruin her client’s life.
But in the end, she realizes it comes at a price, and she may not be happy with what she finds.
Mea Culpa’s Ending Explained
As an attorney, Mea was aware that a lawyer would frequently make mistakes if they were very involved in a case. She maintained that distance when she took on Zyair’s case, but as soon as they fell in love, she saw that their relationship could no longer function, either personally or professionally.
She was correct to keep her distance from the case, but she didn’t understand how near she had been to it the entire time until much later. Mea believed her brother-in-law was pursuing Zyair in an attempt to exploit the well-publicized case to open doors for him to be elected mayor.
Nevertheless, the cause is ultimately revealed to be quite different. She goes on vacation and spends some time in a resort following her breakup with Zyair and Cal. To her surprise, Hydie—the person Zyair was supposed to kill—shows up. She calls the police, but they offer no assistance.
Ray is remarkably composed when she tells him, inviting Mea to come home and work things out. Mea receives a call from Jimmy when she returns home, informing her that her mother-in-law never had cancer. She wasn’t ill.
Furthermore, Mea finds paintings of Charlise in a chamber in the house that is painted by Zyair, indicating that he and Charlise had an affair. It doesn’t take long for things to go apart after this. Ray and her mother-in-law come clean and admit that they had planned the entire affair from the beginning.
He felt betrayed that Charlise had an affair with Ray. In addition to wanting to accomplish two goals at once, he decided to hold the artist accountable for it. He paid a female called Hydie to have a brief romantic relationship with Zyair to expose his strange sexual habits.
It was staged to appear as though Hydie had been murdered six months later. To prove without a shadow of a doubt that Zyair killed her, she even recorded a video. After Hydie was sent abroad, Ray took up the case, confident that he would win due to the substantial evidence that had already been gathered against Zyair.
Ray was aware that no attorney worth their salt would take on a case with such national prominence only to lose it. His strategy was to win it and then utilize it to strengthen his candidacy in the upcoming mayoral race.
The story that Ray was a devoted son who was taking care of his sick mother and battling crime in the city was furthered by the fabrication that his mother had cancer. Everything was set up to make Ray appear to be the good guy, then Mea entered, snatched Zyair’s case, and destroyed the whole situation for them.
