A drone attack originating from Russia struck a commercial area in Odesa, Ukraine’s Black Sea port, resulting in three fatalities, according to Ukrainian military sources and regional governor Oleh Kiper. Overnight, Russia launched a total of 31 drones towards Ukraine, with 23 being successfully intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses.
Despite efforts to intercept nine drones, one managed to hit an area near Odesa’s port, sparking a fire. Firefighters, engaged in battling the blaze, discovered one casualty, while a female security guard was safely rescued from a building.
Tragically, two additional individuals were found deceased under the rubble, bringing the death toll to three as confirmed by Governor Kiper.
The attack involved missile strikes as well, although they failed to hit any designated targets. Images shared by the Ukrainian military depict significant structural damage to buildings in the vicinity, with rescue teams navigating through debris to locate survivors.
Meanwhile, in the city of Dnipro, another Russian drone strike struck a multi-story apartment complex, resulting in injuries to eight individuals, as reported by the regional governor, Serhiy Lysak.
Governor Lysak noted that the search for potential additional victims continued throughout the night, with the possibility of residents still trapped beneath the rubble. However, independent verification of these accounts by Reuters was not immediately available.
This latest incident adds to the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, underscoring the volatile situation in the region and the ongoing threats faced by civilians in areas targeted by military actions.
