Shakira has announced the early arrival of Hot Girl Summer with her latest endeavor. At 47, she revealed the forthcoming release of her 12th studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), slated for March 22. This marks her first album drop in seven years.
The press release underscores the album as a testament to “Shakira’s resilience and strength and music’s power to transform even the most trying experiences into precious moments.” The singer said,
“Making this body of work has been an alchemical process. While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”
The 16-track album will comprise eight new songs, a remix, and seven familiar singles, including collaborations like “Music Sessions Vol. 53” with Bizarrap, “TQG” with Karol G, “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro, and “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo.
In September, Shakira was bestowed with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, honoring her lifetime achievements in the industry.
The “Waka Waka” sensation reemerged in the music scene following her split from longtime partner Gerard Piqué in June 2022.
Shakira reflected on the significant shifts in her life while accepting Billboard’s Woman of the Year award at the inaugural Latin Women in Music gala in May. “This has been a year of seismic change in my life where I’ve felt more than ever — and very personally — what it is to be a woman,” she shared as she graciously received the award.
“It’s been a year where I’ve realized we women are stronger than we think, braver than we believed, more independent than we were taught to be,” she added. “Because what woman hasn’t at some time in her life forgotten herself because she’s seeking the attention and love of someone else? It happened to me more than once.”
Shakira, who publicly acknowledged her relationship with Piqué in March 2011, further delved into her journey of self-discovery and recognizing her worth as a woman.
“But there comes a time in the life of every woman where she no longer depends on someone else to love and accept herself just as she is,” she said. “A time when the search for someone else is replaced by the search for oneself.”
Shakira added,
“A time when the desire to be perfect is replaced by the desire to be authentic, and where finding someone who is faithful is less important than being faithful to ourselves.”
