Beyond Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro has endured some of the most tragic events in Jujutsu Kaisen. He was forced to battle his own father, Toji Fushiguro, during the chaotic Shibuya Incident, unaware of their relationship at the time.
Even more horrifying, while the sinister Sukuna inhabited his body, Megumi was made to kill his beloved sister in cold blood.
As a result of such intense trauma and suffering, many fans speculate that Megumi could turn to the dark side by the manga’s conclusion. There are even theories that he, rather than the feared King of Curses, could become the ultimate villain.

The creator, Gege Akutami, may have subtly foreshadowed Megumi’s dark fate long before Sukuna seized control over him and went on a murderous rampage.
With the merciless Sukuna still residing within him, Megumi’s future remains uncertain, but his suffering so far exceeds all but Yuji’s in the grim world of Jujutsu Sorcery.
Foreshadowing Megumi’s Potential Turn in Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator, Gege Akutami, has a penchant for throwing unexpected plot twists at fans, from Gojo’s death to Yuta Okkotsu utilizing one of Sukuna’s attacks.
He seems to have mastered the art of keeping readers shocked. One such bombshell that he may have subtly hinted at earlier involves Megumi Fushiguro.
In Chapter 43, the manga’s cover page depicts Megumi striking a pose eerily reminiscent of Sukuna’s. More intriguingly, an ominous shadow emerges from Megumi’s back.
One fan theory by @BIGDADDYGOJO suggests this shadow bears an uncanny similarity to the “Merger” that surfaces during the Culling Game arc.
This potential foreshadowing implies Megumi could eventually initiate this calamitous Merger within the story, officially becoming a greater adversary than both Sukuna and Kenjaku.
After all, the Merger brings about the destruction of all humanity if allowed to spread unchecked.
So Megumi may transform from victim to villain, orchestrating the apocalyptic event himself.
With Akutami’s penchant for shock value, such a dark twist for Megumi’s character would not come completely out of the blue for fans.
The suffering he has endured could set the stage for him to snap and bring about the Merger out of revenge.
Megumi’s Potential Descent into Villainy
With the merciless King of Curses Sukuna currently possessing him, Megumi has become an unwilling pawn used to carry out terrible deeds as part of the demon’s schemes.
Despite being one of the most beloved and pivotal characters in Jujutsu Kaisen so far, Megumi’s ultimate destiny remains uncertain.
Unlike the resilient Yuji, Megumi may not be able to endure the tremendous pain and trauma he has suffered throughout the series.
He will be forced to bear the crushing weight of his sister’s death – the person he cherished most – as well as the loss of his respected teacher, Gojo Satoru. And this agony continues as he is made to slaughter countless innocent lives while under Sukuna’s control.
Whereas Yuji’s strong will may allow him to resist corruption, Megumi could reach a breaking point.
The culmination of so much personal tragedy could push him over the edge into becoming a villain himself.
His innate kindness could twist into merciless vengeance. And with the ruthless Sukuna still lurking within, Megumi’s once-bright future looks increasingly dark. Will he maintain his humanity despite the relentless anguish…or will he snap?
Similar to how Yuji agonized over Sukuna’s many murders while possessing him, Megumi will be tormented by the gruesome slaughters carried out using his body.
He will be crushed under the sheer anguish over the innumerable lives sacrificed by his unwilling hands. Such immense trauma has the potential to utterly shatter anything still intact within his soul.
Moreover, Megumi was submerged in the curse-infested bath, which is said to pull one ever “closer to evil.” When compounded with his earlier distress, this corruption could be the final crack to make him snap completely.
All these grim occurrences, along with creator Gege Akutami’s apparent foreshadowing, point towards a possibility that Megumi could eventually transform into the ultimate antagonist by Jujutsu Kaisen’s conclusion.
Where Yuji’s unwavering spirit appears able to withstand Sukuna’s cruel influence, Megumi may finally break under the unrelenting torment and turn utterly cold and merciless himself.
The sweet, caring boy fans first met could become a callous villain, driven solely by a desire for revenge against those who orchestrated his unimaginable suffering over the course of the story.
