On January 31, 2024, Nicki Minaj introduced a fresh perspective on her ongoing feud with Megan Thee Stallion. Making an appearance on the X Spaces show co-hosted by Joe Budden, the FTCU rapper candidly addressed the recent controversy surrounding her diss track, “Big Foot,” aimed at the Hiss rapper.
As reported by Complex, at approximately the 17:30 mark, Nicki Minaj drew parallels between Megan Thee Stallion’s April 2022 interview with Gayle King and Rihanna’s 2009 CBS News appearance. “She wanted a – To be honest, it’s so obvious, she wanted a Rihanna moment so bad,” Minaj stated.
For those unfamiliar, Rihanna discussed her experience of domestic abuse by her former boyfriend, Chris Brown, during a CBS News appearance. Similarly, Megan Thee Stallion, on Gayle King’s show, tearfully shared her fear after being shot in the foot by fellow rapper Tory Lanez.
Continuing on Wednesday, Nicki Minaj persisted in criticizing Megan Thee Stallion, specifically pointing out her Gayle King interview, asserting that she aimed for it to be a “Rihanna moment.”
“But here’s the thing, Rihanna is just known for being herself. You get what you see, you see what you get, you get what you see type of vibe, right?” the Pink Friday rapper mentioned.
Nicki Minaj expanded her comments, highlighting Rihanna’s approach of not exploiting her story and expressing a desire to “move on with her life” following the domestic violence incident with Chris Brown.
She emphasized that the Good Girl Gone Bad singer recognized her youth and acknowledged making a mistake by being involved with the wrong person. “You know why? Because Rihanna knows that she is a superstar with or without controversy. She’s beautiful with or without controversy. She’s loved with or without controversy, I’m sorry, sympathy,” Minaj added.
Following the viral spread of the Anaconda rapper’s comments on Rihanna during the X Spaces statement, Nicki Minaj faced intense online backlash for seemingly attempting to exploit the latter’s domestic abuse. Some individuals went as far as demanding her cancellation due to the perceived distasteful nature of her remarks.
As of now, neither Rihanna nor Megan Thee Stallion has commented on Nicki Minaj’s remarks. In addition to drawing comparisons between the Cobra rapper and the Umbrella singer, Minaj continued her critique by asserting that Stallion portrayed artists like Tory Lanez, DaBaby, and her ex-boyfriend Pardison Fontaine as “villains” to capitalize on every new album launch.
Minaj added that Megan had long sought continuous sympathy for the Tory Lanez incident, even questioning the authenticity of her being shot. She claimed that when someone like herself finally paid attention to Stallion, she went silent and attempted to prevent Minaj’s song from being released.
The feud between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion originated on January 26 when Stallion released her latest single, “Hiss,” referencing “Megan’s Law,” which focuses on registered sex offenders.
Though Stallion didn’t directly mention Minaj or her family, Minaj interpreted it as a reference to her husband Kenneth Petty, a convicted offender registered under Megan’s Law in California, sparking the ongoing grudge.
In response, Nicki Minaj released “Big Foot,” taking jabs at Megan, referring to her as a “bullet fragment foot b*tch” and mentioning her late mother, Holly Thomas, on social media. Minaj also delved into topics like YouTube bots, Twitter ads, Lyor Cohen, and alleged orchestrated negativity against her online, discussing a perceived smear campaign on Joe Budden’s X Spaces, as reported by Uproxx.
