Joo Hyun Young has opted not to join the fifth reboot season of Coupang Play’s ‘SNL Korea.’ Despite being a consistent presence in the show until Season 4, Joo made the decision after extensive discussions.
Joo Hyun Young became part of the ‘SNL Korea’ crew in September 2021, marking the commencement of its first reboot season. Over the subsequent four seasons, she actively engaged viewers, showcasing distinctive characters in diverse segments.
With a theater major background, Joo garnered significant acclaim on ‘SNL Korea’ for her role as the endearing intern reporter, ‘Joo Reporter,’ in the flagship segment ‘Weekend Update.’ Her interviews with influential political figures in the ‘Joo Reporter Goes’ segment and her portrayal of a ‘young know-it-all’ in the ‘MZ Office’ segment struck a chord with the audience.
Ascending to fame via ‘SNL Korea,’ Joo extended her presence as an actress. Notably, she portrayed Donggeurami, a confidante to Woo Young-woo (played by Park Eun-bin), in the well-received ENA drama ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo,’ concluding in August 2022. Further, her performance as Sawol, the maid to Park Yeon-woo, in MBC’s recently concluded drama ‘The Virtuous Queen of Han’s Contract Marriage’ garnered acclaim.
Post her ‘SNL Korea’ departure, Joo aims to concentrate on her acting career. Despite speculation about conflicts between the production team and the company influencing her decision, it’s clarified that Joo had decided to exit after Season 4.
Affiliated with AIMC, a subsidiary of AStory involved in Seasons 1 to 4, tensions surfaced when the production team, led by PD Ahn Sang-hwi, transitioned to Coupang’s CP Entertainment for Season 5.
In the wake of ‘The Virtuous Queen of Han’s Contract Marriage,’ Joo actively seeks her next project. Anticipation surrounds her 2022-shot movie ‘2 O’Clock Date,’ while she gears up for an appearance in the forthcoming Tving original variety show ‘Crime Scene Returns,’ slated for release on the 9th of next month.
