After 35 years of waiting, Road House is ready to serve its highly anticipated fans. The movie had already revealed its release along with its cast—Jake Gyllenhaal and UFC champion Conor McGregor, during the early months of December 2023, and now they have announced the release date of Road House.
The Doug Liman-directed movie Road House has been announced to be released on March 21, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video. The movie Road House will be an OTT release, not a theatrical release.

The movie Road House is a remake of Road House 1989, directed by Edge of Tomorrow filmmaker Doug Liman, and will be released on March 21, 2024, on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
The remake of Road House has Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, and the UFC champion, Conor McGregor, marking it as his first feature film with a pivotal role where he plays the role of a character, Knox, who will be seen beside Gyllenhaal throughout the movie. The screenwriters of The Road House are Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry.
The original, Road House, was released in 1989, directed by Rowdy Herrington. It starred Patrick Swayze in the lead role of a professional and a cooler at a roadside bar who tries to protect a small town in Missouri from the hands of a corrupt businessman.
The film also starred Sam Elliott in a pivotal role as a bouncer, friend, mentor, and foil to the character of Swayze.
The synopsis of the remake of Road House is that it is a reimagined and sharpened-up version of the 1980s classic under the same name. It reflects on the life of an ex-UFC fighter, Dalton (Gyllenhaal), who joined Florida Key Road House as a bouncer to acknowledge that this paradise is not exactly what he sees.
During the shoot for the movie, Gyllenhaal filmed some scenes at UFC 285, where he had to go for the weigh-ins and some choreographed battles with a UFC veteran, Jay Hieron. “We had one take,” He said.
There were constraints for the actual UFC event, so the schedule for Hieron was very tight.
Hieron added, “Six minutes and you are out. You either get it or you do not. So that process was great, too.” to film the fighting scenes of Gyllenhaal was scheduled after the prelims ended and just before the main card was set to begin. Therefore, everybody has to be so prepared and dialed in, from the wardrobe to every moment of production.
Once a scene has taken place, it has to be recorded then and there, with no retake options. The whole team had the ball rolling, and “it was just incredible to be a part of it,” said UFC veteran Jay Hieron.
Back in 2022, when the remake of the 80s classic was announced, Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, said, “Road House is a home run for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie,” in a statement.
Jennifer said they are thrilled to have Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role and for them to come together to reimagine the MGM film as an action-packed adventure for their global audience.
The movie will be released on an OTT rather than a theatrical release, and this decision has disappointed the director, Doug Liman.
According to him, he had signed in for a theatrical motion picture for MGM, which is being bought by Amazon now. Amazon MGM had told him to make a great film, and they would see what happened.
The director believes he has done his job of making a great film, but Amazon is not following what they said; therefore, it was announced that he would not be present when Road House opens the SXSW film festival, as Liam wanted to see this movie on the big screens.
Road House is a home-run movie; not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it also has a big-screen and broad audience. A trailer for the Road House is announced to be released on January 25.
