The story begins after two months of battle between the Qing and Ming dynasties in Joseon. After lots of sacrifices and bloodshed, still Ming’s efforts went in vain. Whereas, the King on the throne with no option left had to sign the treaty with the Qing. However, they took King’s younger brother Jin Han as hostage.
Jin Han is an honest and practical person who pursues benevolence for the public and respects his older brother. For the welfare of the state, he accepts his fate as Qing’s hostage. Jin Han with hundreds of captive of Ming were taken to Qing on other hand Ming ruler just kept his hand closed doing nothing.
Captivating the King is a period drama by TVN and produced by studio dragon which is given the timeline of 9:20 PM KST every Saturday and Sunday. The initial two episodes have already been and the second one recorded the highest viewership locally.

Set in Joseon Era, Captivating the King tells unrequited love story between Ji Han and Kang Hee So. Ironiucally, Hee So was a spy who get close to Jin Han for revenge however she ended up falling in love with him. Let’s talk about the plot in a brief.
Plot
Jin Han was the younger brother of King Yi Seon, who was sent to Qing as hostage after loosing the battle. Ji Han would find his solace in Baduk and that’s how he bumps into the state’s popular Baduk Gambler Kang Mong Woo. However, Kang Mong Woo is none other then Hee Soo disguised as man.
Ji Han who due to certain situations became the next successor of throne, but his closed ones aren’t happy with him becoming a king. With a terrible fate in family, he gets close with Mong Woo and share an exceptional frinedship. On other hand, Hee Soo [Mong Woo] fell in love with him.
Recap
In the previous two episodes we get the introduction to the drama and on the initial characters of so. After two months of battle with Qing the Ming’s couldn’t get victory on their side. To get the liberty the King Yi Seol decided to join hand with Qing and send his younger brother Jin Han as hostage as promised.
Jin Han upon reaching Qing get closer with Crown Prince Ryu, the only son of Qing’s ruler. Jin Han would teach Ryu Baduk and thus they form friendship. After almost years, Jin Han with help of Ryu managed to get permission of returning back to his state.
However, Jin Han was welcomed bitterly by the King. The rumour of him being a spy of Crown Prince Ryu also started spreading. Disheartened Jin Han had no choice but to bear with all and survive. Just at this moment he meets a popular Baduk Gambler. He finds the young man interesting and tries to chase him.
Meanwhile, in the royal court, the Court Lady Dong who is worried with the return of Jin Han decides to resort for other way to avoid his succession to throne. Illness of King Yi Seol also at peak which puts question in everyone to whom they should appoint as the next King.
The Baduk Gambler turns out to be the only daughter of Chief State Councillor. She is excellent in Baduk so she would disguise and earn money to donate that money to poor public who can not pay ransom to the royal court. However, only her assiatnt Geun-Nyeon knows about her disguise.
