The game initially utilized Denuvo anti-tamper technology, but a recent update, version 16.0.2.0, reportedly replaced it with the controversial Enigma Protector DRM. Capcom faced backlash for implementing Enigma in Resident Evil Revelations, leading to a reversion due to performance complaints.
The Steam version of Monster Hunter Rise now incorporates the same DRM, prompting negative reviews and a shift from ‘Very Positive’ to ‘Mixed’ on the Steam page. Users report issues running the game on Steam Deck, attributing it to the addition of Enigma, though definitive proof is yet to be established.
“Capcom added Enigma DRM to this game (and are slowly doing this with their whole catalog), which has reduced performance and broke the game on Steam Deck,” reads a review from user Scheme, who had 30 hours of play on record before now.
“It is baffling that they didn’t even test Steam Deck compatibility, given that they advertise their support for it. Even more baffling when they just did this same thing two weeks prior with Resident Evil Revelations and also had to pull the patch until they could fix it.”
#MonsterHunterRise got a patch. Denuvo removed and replaced with Enigma. File mods work. Messing with memory still works. At least some debuggers still work. RE Framework works if you use the nightly build. DLL injection mods might be affected

The game initially utilized Denuvo anti-tamper technology, but the latest 16.0.2.0 update reportedly removes it and replaces it with the controversial Enigma Protector DRM, as highlighted by modder FluffyQuack.
Enigma was previously introduced to Resident Evil Revelations this month, prompting Capcom to revert the update and eliminate the DRM due to player complaints about performance issues.
Now, the DRM has been incorporated into the Steam version of Monster Hunter Rise, resulting in apparent issues. The game’s Steam page has garnered numerous negative reviews, shifting its usual ‘Very Positive’ status to ‘Mixed.’
Many of these reviews highlight that the game no longer runs on Steam Deck, with players attributing this to the addition of Enigma, although definitive proof of this being the exact reason is yet to be established, as opposed to another issue with the same update.
