The early 2000s were a great time for pop and R&B singers, with most of them coming out with at least one award-winning album. One such group from the era would be Danity Kane, known for their hit songs like Show Stopper and Ride For You.
While the Aubrey O’Day, Shannon Bex, and Dawn Richard trio no longer perform together, their music continues to inspire many new R&B artists. Born in New Orleans and later raised in Baltimore, Dawn knew she wanted to be in the world of music and would often spend her childhood days learning new dance moves or singing her heart out at her school programs.
Once old enough, Dawn decided to audition for a popular MTV show called Making the Band 3, which would give her the chance to be part of a hit girl group. With her sweet yet powerful voice, Richard stole the hearts of many judges and was eventually declared the winner of the competition along with Aubrey, Aundrea, Wanita, and Shannon.
Despite their worldwide popularity in the R&B genre, Dawn and the other talented women ended up splitting in 2009. This led to Dawn starting her successful solo music career that continues to shine today. Dawn, Shannon, and others later grouped up once again to perform songs from their Danty Kane era.
Dawn Danity Kane: Before And After
Music has been a very influential part of Dawn’s life, with her continuing to pursue it despite being displaced from her home due to Hurricane Katrina. It was in 2005 that Dawn started singing on a public level, through the show Making The Band’s 3rd season.
Richard easily surpassed the cutthroat competition by beating others and creating a great first impression on all of those around her. All of the winners of Making the Band season 3 formed what became known as the iconic “Danity Kane”. It was Dawn’s love for manga that became the inspiration for the group’s name.
Danity’s face card was equally attractive as her music, but over the years, the Me Myself & Y singer has changed her appearance quite a lot of times. Back in the early 2010s, fans of Richard believed that she had undergone surgery or Botox treatments worth $100,000 to make herself look younger again.
These rumors were debunked by Dawn Richard herself in an interview where she clarified that she had never undergone any kind of modification or surgery. Dawn also believed that spending so much money on cosmetic surgery was crazy and not something she would ever go for.
While the Let Love In singer continues to deny any surgery, her face seems to have changed tremendously over the years. Now almost in her 40s, Dawn Richard looks younger and more beautiful than ever before. It could be cosmetic surgery or just a healthy lifestyle and carefree aging, nonetheless, Dawn will always remain an iconic star in the world of Rhythm and blues.
Dawn Richard: The Heart of Danity Kane
With a family that’s fully invested in music and dance, Dawn grew up knowing that she was going to be making a name for herself in the same career path as her parents. Frank Richard, her dad, used to be a member of Chocolate Milk, while her mother owned a dancing school.
Whenever she wasn’t at school, Dawn would spend her time learning interesting choreography and new songs. All of Richard’s teens were filled with performances at local parties and events, which led her to be discovered by Kemic A. Smothers.
Dawn collaborated with hit artists like Sean Diddy and Ne-Yo early on in her career, giving her the perfect path to fame and stardom. Once Richard became a part of Danity Kane, she released songs with various artists like Flo Rida, Lil Wayne, and Kalenna Harper.
Kalenna and Dawn were part of a group called the Dirty Money, which sadly didn’t last for a long time. Her hit mixtape, The Prelude to A Tell Tale Heart and a remix of Novacane led Richard to gain an immense fan following and attention. These hits were followed by the release of Blackheart, Redemption Heart, and Golden Heart.
Dawn Richard has now been in the industry for more than 2 decades and continues to come out with exciting new albums every 2-3 years. For now, Richard is busy concentrating on giving fans entertaining tours instead of focusing on her looks and being held back due to her age.
