Betrayal of Dignity Chapter 49 will be releasing next week! Last week’s chapter ended on a shocking note, with the cottage where Chloe lived was burst into flames. Damien returned to the burning building and was told that Chloe was still inside when the incident happened.
Before this, Chloe was approached by Gilles who asked her to run away with him. He wanted to protect her from all the woes and sorrows she faced and help her escape. However, Chloe rejected the offer and promised to find her happiness.
The upcoming chapter of Betrayal of Dignity will perhaps reveal the true scenes of what went down before the cottage was burnt. Perhaps the letter Chloe had written was a ploy to make it seem like she had reconciled with the Duke, and then set the place on fire so she could finally escape.
Recap
Gilles had risked his life to enter the cottage and meet Chloe. He pleads for her to run away with him. He knew it was dangerous for him to even meet the Duchess and the Duke would kill him if he knew, but Gilles only wanted one thing- for Chloe to escape.
Gilles tells Chloe that it its true someone like him couldn’t possibly match up to her, but he didn’t want to give up solely on that reason. Having witnessed Chloe unhappy on multiple occassions, Gilles couldn’t help but harbour these feelings that continued to grow stronger and stronger.
Seeing Chloe in pain made it feel like he himself was withering away. Gilles breaks down into tears and begs Chloe to run away with him. He doesn’t want to see her suffering any further and promises to take care of her come what may.
Chloe wipes away Gilles tears and thanks him for the offer. She tells him how much she appreciated his bravery of risking his life to convey his feelings and his offer to run away with him. The romantic gesture that Gilles had performed would remain in Chloe’s heart forever; she will never forget this moment.
She goes on to make ice tea for Gilles but he stops her and asks if he’ll never be worthy of her. Chloe tells him that she cannot rely on his kindness right now. If she did, she would be burdened with guilt, and Gilles would never find the happiness he deserves.
Gilles wasn’t the type of man who would force someone to stay by his side. He was someone who would rather protect someone’s world and freedom than destroy it. Hearing this, Gilles couldn’t deny it himself. He asks Chloe to promise him one last thing before he leaves.
He asked her to promise him that she would be happy. Chloe makes the promise and further tells him that whatever decision she would make, it would all be a choice made by her and not someone else. Gilles leaves after Chloe promised that she would find happiness.
After he’s gone, Chloe begins to write a letter to Damien. She writes that during his absence, she had alot of time to think things over and apologized for her childlike stubbornness. She claims to have let the grief take over her which caused problems between them.
By the end of the letter, she hopes that he can settle all matters and return quickly. Damien had read the letter on his way back and noticed Eliza at the station. He goes back to the cottage with her but is welcomed with a horrific sight.
The cottage in which Chloe was living in had burned down. The whole place was fuming in flames and the maid informs Damien that the Duchess was still inside when it happened.
