Everything worthwhile has to end. While 2024 promises to be an exciting year for both new and returning series (many of which had to be postponed because of the now-resolved SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes), it also means that several cherished primetime and streaming programs will be leaving us.
In 2024, Netflix and CBS accounted for the most cancelled programs, with nine and four cancelled episodes, respectively. The following are a few noteworthy initiatives that will conclude in 2024. TV viewers are getting ready to bid goodbye to their favourite shows in 2024, from Good Trouble to Yellowstone.
In the lead-up to its impending series finale, the Western on the Paramount Network has seen its share of drama. The second portion of Yellowstone’s final season was beset with difficulties after the first half debuted in November 2022.
Rumours of a falling out between series lead Kevin Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan caused the remaining episodes to be rescheduled.
Which Are The TV Shows Ending in 2024?
Good Trouble
January will mark the premiere of the last episodes of the series, which followed Callie and Mariana from Freeform’s The Fosters.
In the waning minutes of the Good Trouble conclusion, Mariana least anticipated finding Silas waiting for her in her room when she arrived home. Mariana’s situation doesn’t seem promising in light of what we know about Silas.
Media spoke exclusively with Cierra Ramirez on finishing season 5A on that type of a cliffhanger. Evan was shot in the opening moments of the season after visiting the Farm to check on Mariana. Evan lived, but he spent some time unconscious.
La Brea
La Brea is scheduled to premiere in January following its renewal for a third and final season. The Harris family, which is severely damaged by the opening of a massive sinkhole in Los Angeles, is a major theme of La Brea.
Anyone unlucky enough to be caught up in the disastrous occurrence discovers a primitive world teeming with peril and mystery that unites them.
The father Gavin and daughter Izzy are left on the outside, attempting to figure out how to get everyone back, while the mother Eve, son Josh, and many other survivors are carried away to the prehistoric era.
With additional twists and turns that called into doubt the Harris family’s past as the cast journeyed to several eras, including the 1980s, Season 2 further explored the Lost-like mystery.
Magnum P.I.
Following the conclusion of its fifth season in early January, the action drama was canceled. The first of the final two episodes, “Ashes to Ashes,” featured #Miggy investigating a possibly lethal case of arson for which a chum of Mahina’s had been declared the lead suspect, while Kumu brilliantly managed a difficult scenario while working phones at the veteran’s crisis center.
Hightown
In December 2023, Starz said that the third and final season of Hightown would air. According to the official synopsis for Hightown Season 3, Monica Raymund’s character Jackie Quiñones, a Massachusetts State Trooper, is “off the wagon and the force.”
Despite this, she nevertheless recklessly ventures into the shadowy underbelly of the idyllic Cape Cod in search of murdered sex workers and missing prostitutes.
The summary goes on to say that her former police partners Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale) and Alan Santille (Dohn Norwood) are concentrated on busting drug cartels.
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The 12th and last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm will debut in February. The home of the show on streaming In a press release on Thursday, Max declared that the show was ending and that the 12th and last season would premiere on February 4 with 10 episodes.
According to Max, the final episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will premiere on April 7, capping a decade-long run that began in 2000.
The Good Doctor
Season 7 of the ABC medical drama is coming to an end and is scheduled to return in February. Lea (played by Paige Spara) was shown to be in the throes of labour in the previous season, but she is suddenly worried about her ability to keep her child safe.
Shaun (Freddie Highmore) was so insistent on obtaining the lucky socks that she had to go home and get them. He encounters Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) outside his apartment and tells him that Lea is in labour.
Even after congratulating him, Dr. Glassman and him still have an odd relationship. Lea finds Dr. Glassman and attempts to console him about Shaun, breaking her heart, but she starts crying.
S.W.A.T.
After six seasons, CBS originally canceled S.W.A.T. but then renewed the program for a seventh and final season. The first of the episodes airs in February.
According to Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, “For six seasons, the incredible talents of the S.W.A.T. cast, led by Shemar Moore, and the writers, producers, and crew led by executive producers Shawn Ryan, Andy Dettman, and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas brought us compelling, action-packed episodes that also discussed important social issues and played a role in the success of our primetime lineup.”
Station 19
Unexpectedly, Station 19 will conclude with the start of its seventh season in March. The startling death, some long-awaited acknowledgment, and the suspenseful conclusion of Station 19’s sixth season perfectly encapsulated the rollercoaster that has been the sixth season of the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff.
Station 19 season 6, episode 18, “Glamorous Life,” with its unexpected tragedy at the firefighter ball and Station 19’s fresh beginnings, made for an exciting conclusion to a season already full of shocks.
Young Royals
The Netflix series is slated to premiere its third and final season in March. The second season of Young Royals is even more dramatic and spicy than the first, thanks to the show’s abundance of sex, deception, and videotape—specifically, leaked sex tapes.
By the time the fifth episode ends, all of those secrets are known. It is revealed to Simon and Sara at last that August was the one who leaked the tape during season one. Unaware of this, August has taken action to buy Sara back the horse she lost as a way of expressing his love for her.
Star Trek: Discovery
The fourth season of the CBS sci-fi series has been ordered to run for ten episodes, with a launch date of April. The unexpected decision to cancel Star Trek: Discovery after season five will have an impact on the whole Star Trek series on Paramount+.
The news broke on March 2, 2023, that Discovery’s upcoming fifth season will be its final one. Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, producer and series lead Sonequa Martin-Green (playing Captain Michael Burnham), Tanya Giles, the chief programming officer at Paramount, and David Stapf of CBS Studios all expressed their sincere gratitude for Discovery’s success.
Bob Hearts Abishola
May is when the series finale is supposed to air. Though the May season finale suggested that Bob and Abishola would be leaving town after the latter was admitted to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, there are still a lot of unanswered issues regarding how the show will handle this significant change.
The season ended with Bob feeling anxious about the relocation and wondering where our favourite couple would end up. It is conceivable that they will relocate to Baltimore and occasionally see members of their family there.
Young Sheldon
The one-hour series finale of the Big Bang Theory prequel series will premiere in May. Despite the show’s ongoing success, CBS is discontinuing Young Sheldon with season 7. There are multiple reasons for this decision.
Following the announcement that The Big Bang Theory prequel will be concluding its run for the balance of the 2023–2024 TV season, Sheldon and the Coopers are set to say farewell.
Though its possible conclusion has long been considered, Young Sheldon’s possible finale may come as a surprise given that the show continues to be a huge ratings smash on CBS, even ranking as the network’s number-one comedy for the 2022–2023 season. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA’s historic dual strikes have only postponed the decision.
Yellowstone
November is apparently when the second half of Yellowstone’s last season will premiere. The mid-season finale of the popular television show Yellowstone, “A Knife and No Coin,” saw members of the Dutton family going to open war with one another. It left viewers wondering if Jamie would be able to unseat his father.
Jamie’s choice to proceed with his plan to unseat his father from the governor’s office is the major story point of this episode. Beth correctly characterizes Jamie’s actions as a declaration of war when John and Beth learn what he has done.
Blue Bloods
The last season of Blue Bloods will air in two parts, with the first ten episodes on CBS in February. Fall premiere dates are set for the final eight episodes. The 14th season of Blue Bloods, the venerable CBS police drama starring Tom Selleck, will mark the show’s end, the network said in a press release on November 20.
Additionally, the series is receiving a protracted send-off as its last season will be divided into two parts, the first of which will premiere on February 16 and the second in the fall of 2024.
Superman & Lois
Despite declaring that Superman & Lois’s fourth season is the final one, The CW has not yet revealed the date of the show’s formal premiere.
The fourth season of Superman & Lois on The CW will be the show’s last. Superman has had a pretty unusual career for actor Tyler Hoechlin.
He had his Supergirl debut on The CW, then went on to star in Superman & Lois when the show debuted in 2021.
Season 2 of Superman & Lois made it clear that the show was a standalone set in its universe, despite its initial presentation suggesting it had ambiguous ties to Hoechlin’s Superman role in the Arrowverse.
The Umbrella Academy
The Netflix series got picked up for a fourth and final season in August 2022; it will air this year. One of the greatest surprises from The Umbrella Academy season 3 was learning Five formed the Commission.
Not only does Five create the bureaucratic organization, but he also creates the warning to let the world end rather than trying to save it as he usually does.
Five is shocked to learn this after years of trying to leave the Commission, which was run by the Handler, to warn his siblings about the impending apocalypse.
The elder Five doesn’t go into detail about why he shouldn’t save the world, but it’s possible that he was aware that nothing would change if the world was reset.
Vikings: Valhalla
This year will mark the premiere of Vikings: Valhalla’s third and final season. While Leif Erikson (played by Sam Corlett) originally went on his mission to absolve his sister of the guilt she committed when she sought vengeance on her abuser, he has now found himself at the darkest point of his existence following the war for Kattegat.
Tensions are at an all-time high as the season ends with Kattegat, the location where the characters originally met, while his sister has accepted her fate and made the decision to confront it head-on.
Beginning with a few important details revealed ahead of the Season 1 finale, it was revealed that King Canute (Bradley Freegard) is not present in the last episodes of the show, preferring to concentrate on the war in Denmark. However, the night before he departs, he marries Emma (Laura Berlin).
You
You’s fifth and final season, which will air later this year, is where Joe Goldberg’s journey ends. In Episode 7, Joe blackmails Rhys into killing him in his rural home through torture, partly because Kate’s (Charlotte Ritchie) father, Greg Kinnear, is the one who does it.
Crucially, Joe thinks Rhys is the one who has been belittling his friends and attempting to place the blame squarely on Joe. However, as Joe looks at the bloodied, bound corpse of Rhys, another Rhys materializes next to him.
How is that possible? That Rhys, the deadly Rhys, was all in Joe’s imagination, though. Joe can’t recall doing any of the killings, but it turns out he is accountable for them all.
Outlander
The last episode of Outlander is eagerly anticipated by fans, although the debut date has not yet been confirmed. The thrilling last episode of Outlander season 6 left a lot of questions unanswered. Outlander season six is based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling books, specifically A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
However, because of pandemic filming restrictions, the season was cut down to eight episodes, and the show’s creative team decided to move several of the book’s most significant plotlines to the upcoming season.
Because of this, one would have anticipated that the conclusion of Outlander season 6 would be a letdown, but instead, the personal and action-packed finale was utterly captivating.
