The chapter begins with Lortelle approaching Ed, saying she has something to discuss with him. Lortelle was the designated hidden hero in the game, and she was treated as the villain. Her true colors weren’t to be revealed till the story was halfway complete, and this was just the beginning.
Ed is thinking of the way Lorelle’s character build-up changes the opinions of the players once they realize her true intentions. Filled with loneliness and anguish, it became difficult for them to choose between her and Phoenia.
While Lorelle is still trying to talk to him, Ed simply walks away as he knows that falling for her words would do more harm than good. If he fell for her tactics, then he would lose initiative. Lorelle, however, would not give up. She tries to sugarcoat Ed and make him fall for her trap.
Lorelle offers to pay Ed three gold coins as a down payment in exchange for him helping her befriend Janica. He provokes her by asking why the Golden Daughter is trying to buy connections, and Lorelle tells him that it’s better to have more people on her side.
Hearing this, Ed realizes that Lorelle’s instinct made her unintentionally gather more allies in order to win the future fight against Phoenia. Lorelle knew that she had to start collecting all her supporters so she could be the one in control of the academy.
However, Ed refuses to take the coins and walks away. He was internally regretting the decision to leave the money as it was a hefty amount, but he didn’t want to get stuck between Lorelle and Janica. Ed needed to protect the original storyline from breaking apart.
Despite Ed’s rejection, Lorelle doesn’t give up and goes directly to meet Janica herself. At night, when Lorelle meets Janica, she tries to engage in a conversation with her, but it quickly goes downhill when Janica asks how her conversation with Ed went.
She tells Lorelle that the spirits have overheard their conversation and tells her it’s nice to have someone pay to befriend them in a condescending tone. She warns her saying that sincerity can’t be bought with money, and Ed’s rejection is far more impactful than her attempt at bribery.
After their conversation ends, Lorelle is still not ready to give up and thinks of ways to get through Janica. Meanwhile, Ed decides to befriend the side characters like Belle, the maid who wouldn’t really cause much trouble to the original plot and begins talking to her.
The chapter ends with Ed setting up his campfire, only for it to be destroyed by the arrival of a new character. Lucy had caused havoc on Ed’s place as she landed right next to him.
