Premiering on 6th January 2024, Pon No Michi or The Way of Pon is an anime revolving around the life of Nashiko, who comes across the exciting game of Mahajong. She decides to renovate her father’s old game parlor and spend time learning the ways of the game.
Pon No Michi Episode 2 will be airing this weekend! The anime had the viewers laughing with its entertaining and light-hearted plot. The episode ends with the introduction of a new character, Riche, who might be joining them in their future Mahajong matches.
Along with her friends Pai, Izumi, and a strange-speaking Sparrow that only she can understand, Nashiko begins her Mahajong journey. However, it seems that they won’t be the only ones who’ll enjoy the classic game in that parlor.
Recap
The episode begins with Nashiko being kicked out of her house by her own mother for being too loud. She was causing a disturbance with her live “concert,” and the noise became too unbearable. Nashiko points at her mother for kicking her out and simply leaves.
Her friend Pai, who had witnessed all this drama, followed behind. Nashiko’s mother light-heartedly told Pai that she should try to tame her friend, and Pai smiled and said she’d leave. She soon meets Nashiko sitting on a bench in a park and tells her that maybe they should lay off meeting at her place for a while.
As they’re talking and discussing places where they can hang out, Nashiko gets a call from her dad. He tells her that he can go to this old game parlor he had and use it to hang out with her friends. Hearing this, Nashiko rushes with Pai to the location after the call.
When they reached the place, Nashiko’s dad had left her a note saying that if she cleaned the place, then she could have the place to herself. The two of them realized this job required more people, so Pai went to pick up their friend Izumi.
While Nashiko was cleaning around, she came across boxes filled with Mahajong items, and when she picked up one tile, a small sparrow popped up. He claims to be the Mahajong spirit and takes it upon himself to teach Nashiko how to play.
Pai returns to the parlor with Izumi, and they all get curious about the Mahajong table. Izumi and Pai knew a bit about the game already, so it was Nashiko’s turn to learn the ways of the game through a very reliable source- a comic on Mahajong.
At this point, Izumi had already named the sparrow Chonbo, and all four of them began their intense match of Mahajong after Nashiko had memorized all the rules. However, it seems that none of them were following them at all, and Nashiko won with a terrifying beginner’s luck.
After the game, they all began cleaning once again, and after hours of hard work, they were done. It was sunset by the time the game parlor was spick and span. Nashiko waved goodbye to Izumi and Pai and prepared to leave.
When Nashiko is moving the signboard of the game parlor, she comes across a woman who is amazed by the place. Introducing herself as Hayashi Riche, she tells Nashiko how much she loves the gaming parlor. Since now the place was open, she would come and visit to play Mahajong often.
