Netflix announced on 8 January 2024 that the production for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has begun. Sharing a picture of the cast to X, formerly Twitter Netflix wrote: “This is a code red. Stranger Things 5 production has officially begun!”.
The shot features the original cast members, including Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, Amybeth McNulty, Gaten Matarazzo, and Charlie Heaton. Netflix has announced that Linda Hamilton, from The Terminator, will join the cast in season 5 in a role that has not yet been disclosed.
The series creators, the Duffer Brothers, announced in early 2022 that the show would conclude with a fifth season on Netflix. However, the production was halted due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes for approximately seven months in 2023.
In August 2022, shortly after season 4 was released, the showrunners confirmed to Indiewire that they are being particularly mindful about wrapping up the existing characters’ stories.
However, the executive producer has leveled the hopes by promising that the final season will be worth the wait. In an interview in September 2022, he said that their ambitions are very high. He also added that they do not expect that they are going to mess up with the approach of going into season five because of the way the audiences have grown along with the cinematic scope of the show
Shawn also mentioned that in the final installment, all their remaining questions will be answered. He also claims that they are in the business of satisfying viewers, and they do not plan to leave the viewers waiting for so long.
The fans are eagerly waiting for more updates on the Stranger Things: Season 5. Although season 5 will be the final season of Stranger Things, Netflix has additional projects in the Stranger Things universe in the works.
Production Plans by the Duffer Brothers are Unknown
The last part of the series, Stranger Things: Season 5, has been mostly prepared by the Duffer Brothers, and they have now commenced the filming of the season.
Sadie Sink has once told in an interview that it is not clear how long the season five may take to finish. The Duffers know that the fans are eagerly waiting for the fifth and the final season and may not rush it. They are planning to build the best and most worthy final season.
They may not hasten the process, but it appears that they are reducing the number of scenes in the last season. The Duffer Brothers vowed that the subsequent episodes will be significantly shorter, but they expect the conclusion to be another feature-length episode.
Matt Duffer told in an interaction in the Happy Sad Confused podcast that
The only reason they don’t expect to be as long is, this season, if anyone look at it, it’s almost a two-hour ramp up before their kids really get drawn into a supernatural mystery .The fans will get to know them and see them in their life; they’re having to adjust to high school, Steve’s looking for a date, and so on. None of it is clearly going to happen
But the fans are hoping to view their favorite cast to be onscreen once again.
New Changes in the Finale Season
This season is expected to have many changes and scenes worthy of watching as it will be the final season of the series. Matt and Ross Duffer admitted that Dr. Benner would be dead for real this time, and the same goes for Eddie, who sacrificed himself to the Demobats to buy time for the rest of the kids fighting.
Max will be seen in the final season but will be brain-dead. She will be alive but will be blind, and all her bones will be broken.
The love triangle between Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve will be a part of this season, too. Even Natalia Dyer is unsure of her character’s relationship with Jonathan and Steve.
In the season finale, Will and Vecna will come back together after they were linked to each other in season two. When Jamie Campbell was asked if the fans would get to see the two characters interact together in the last season, he replied that
We all know by now that Vecna and Will have history. So it would be a joy to to get back in there, as she will gently put it. You’ll have to wait and see. She thinks Matt and Ross got something beautiful cooking and they’ll let us know in good time.
Matt Duffer also gave an insight into the location, saying that it is mostly in Hawkins. He also added that the finale season is all about everyone finally coming back together to Hawkins.
However, the release date of Stranger Things: Season 5 is not yet released
