When the first episode of the eagerly awaited anime Solo Leveling premiered, so many people tried to watch it on Crunchyroll that it broke the website.
Lots of disappointed fans went on Reddit, X, and Crunchyroll’s review section to complain that they couldn’t see the new episode.
Fortunately, Crunchyroll fixed the technical problems pretty quickly. Even though there were issues at first, once people could watch it, they loved the premiere.
In just a few hours after it came out, over 30,000 viewers gave it a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars. So, while the huge demand briefly overwhelmed Crunchyroll, fans were thrilled with Solo Leveling’s anime debut overall.
Solo Leveling Sparks Website Frenzy: A New Anime Phenomenon Emerges, Crashing Crunchyroll on Debut”
This was not the first time Crunchyroll’s website was overwhelmed when a super popular new anime episode debuted. Other shows like Demon Slayer, One Piece, and Attack on Titan have also made Crunchyroll crash at least once before, sometimes multiple times.
So it’s really remarkable that a totally new anime like Solo Leveling managed to crash the site on its very first episode.
This just shows how incredibly hyped and eagerly awaited this new show was, even though it didn’t already have a big anime fanbase before.
Crashing a giant website like Crunchyroll is usually something only long-running mega-hit shows can pull off. But Solo Leveling managed it right away, which really demonstrates what an instant phenomenon this new anime series is.
From Web Novel to Global Sensation
Solo Leveling started out as a Korean web novel written by the author Chugong back in 2016. Later, it was turned into a webtoon comic, which helped it gain a huge international fandom.
The story is about a guy named Sung Jin-Woo, who is a really weak monster hunter at first. But then he gets trapped in this mysterious system where he can gain experience points and level up like in a video game.
As he starts leveling up and getting new powers and skills, Jin-Woo becomes super strong. He has to use his new abilities to fight monsters and other hunters in this dangerous world filled with creatures.
So it’s about him going from being weak to becoming this badass overpowered hero. The webtoon’s awesome art and action-packed story made it a huge hit with fans all over the world, who are now excited to see the anime adaptation
Solo Leveling’s Debut Episode Garners Praise for Animation Quality and Adaptation Excellence
Even though some people were annoyed at first when they couldn’t watch the Solo Leveling premiere, overall, fans seemed really happy with the first episode. Many are praising the great animation quality and plot adaptation done by the studio A-1 Pictures so far.
A-1 Pictures is known for making other popular anime like Sword Art Online, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Seven Deadly Sins, and the currently airing Mashle.
They have produced a bunch of long-running shows, which is good news for Solo Leveling fans. It means that if this first season keeps being this popular, we’ll probably get many more seasons of Solo Leveling in the future.
The studio clearly knows how to take a successful manga or light novel and turn it into an amazing anime series that can run for years.
So, based on the high quality of episode one and A-1 Pictures’ reputation, the future looks bright for getting the full Solo Leveling story animated over multiple seasons.
What To Expect From Solo Leveling Episode 2
The first episode of Solo Leveling adapted chapters 1 through 3 from the original webtoon but also had a good amount of new content added just for the anime.
If the show starts closely following the webtoon storyline going forward, episode 2 will probably cover chapters 4 through 7. However, since some important characters haven’t been introduced yet in the anime, episode 2 might also have some more original scenes not from the webtoon.
Based on the one preview image released, it looks like episode 2 will feature the creepy smile from the stone statue that appears in the temple.
We’ll learn more about Jin-Woo’s character as he tries to survive and save others from the temple’s dangers. Fans who read the webtoon will recognize the importance of that statue’s smile moment.
But there’s still plenty of uncertainty about how closely the anime will adapt the full story from the comics versus taking its own path.
