Even at a distance, she could tell they were bringing gifts. Leah noticed the shimmering white diamonds hanging from the wooden spools, and her vision dimmed.
She thought back to that day and realized she’d only consumed a cup of tea and a handful of wild berries. She detested being told to watch what she ate in order to reduce her waist size. Her servants had to obey orders from above, even if they felt bad about giving her so little food.

Every meal that the princesses were served was personally supervised by Queen Cerdina. The housekeepers and she would both suffer greatly if she found out that Leah had consumed even a small quantity more than she had intended.
Cerdina viewed Leah as a tool rather than as a sentient entity. Leah was supposed to wow the numerous Kurkans and nobility that were in town today with her exceptional beauty. It was almost too much for Leah, who clung to the fence to keep her weight supported, and she let out a painful cry.

She worried that it would ruin her perfectly agitated face, so she forced herself to fix her expression. It was almost too much for Leah, who clung to the fence to keep her weight supported, and she let out a painful cry.

Ishakan surprises Leah at the start of the chapter by dragging her far from the palace. Despite her initial reservations, Leah is pleasantly surprised by how happy she feels in Ishakan’s company. Since Ishakan is aware that Leah’s silver hair is a royal emblem, he makes sure they won’t be noticed while on their expedition.
Leah is shielded from inquisitive spectators by Ishakan’s cloak, highlighting his protective demeanor and implying their deepening closeness. Despite his background as a warrior, Ishakan’s decision to embark on an adventure in the empire with him highlights his lack of local knowledge and says more about him as a person.
As the night wears on, Ishakan divulges his intention to leave Leah before an honor meal in the morning. The promise of companionship till dawn initiates a night of shared events and the gradual disintegration of Leah’s guarded ego.
Whispers and interested eyes follow Leah as she gracefully and elegantly walks into the opulent ballroom. Her reputation has been damaged by scandalous rumors that have been circulating throughout the court.
She holds her head up, showing true defiance in spite of her inner agony. Tonight, Leah is going to have to walk a dangerous dance through a world of shimmering swords and well-planned lies, where every step may be a slip and every smile a beautifully choreographed lie.
