On the other hand, Hae Jin also takes the readers through a restoration process alongside Su Jeong in Byeong Guk’s artifact shop. The three of them bring a painting back to life and get ready to make money off it!
Recap
In Chapter 21, Hae Jin is confronted by Byung Guk regarding Yang So Jin, who had asked him to be her appraiser. So Jin had quite a lot of them already, so Byung Guk thought it was a trap laid to take revenge on Hae Jin.
Hae Jin was curious to know the reason as well, so he went and asked where Momoko was, but So Jin said she disappeared. They began suspecting Terauchi Touru, the owner of Maisaru Electronics. He was a big name in the industry, so Hae Jin was doubtful of Byung Guk’s suspicions.
They go on to talk about the painting So Jin asked to appraise, and it was one called “Stonemason” by Yun Du Seo. Su Jeong and Byung Guk are shocked as that particular painting was already in the museum, so it was impossible for her to have it unless it was stolen.
Asking Hae Jin, he tells them that the painting So Jin had was authentic. In his inner monologue, Hae Jin believed the one in the museum too to be authentic, making him believe there are two of the same paintings.
He didn’t want to get involved in all the mess that So Jin would make in Korea but made sure to take a step if she were to deal overseas. The three of them get to work and check out the restoration room in Byung Guk’s antique shop.
It took them three days to buy the materials for the restoration process and millions of dollars to even set up the room. Hae Jin and Su Jeong began to clean the painting and stabilize it with glue. They then sealed it temporarily in order to prevent it from peeling.
They had already spent hours in these steps, and all of them were exhausted. Hae Jin quickly tells them to get up and begin working again. After a span of a week, Hae Jin and Su Jeong were finally done with the last step of filling in the missing parts, and the painting was complete.
All three of them went out to celebrate their success, discussing how they’d now be selling this painting and how much its worth would be. Hae Jin suddenly gets a call regarding an auction where the speaker is interested in some of the paintings to get an appraisal.
Hae Jin agrees to help her and also asks her to come over to check the painting they had just restored in case she would have any interest. She agreed, and they ended the call. Back home, Hae Jin wonders where So Jin’s painting would be going.
He now knew that it was definitely going overseas through Incheon. This meant the antique would either be transported by boat or by ship. The chapter ends with Hae Jin planning to report So Jin’s movements as it was now an overseas case.
