Season 13 sees the midwives dealing with complicated medical and personal cases on district nursing rounds. However, Poplar is surviving better than most because of Nonnatus House’s efforts and the growing trend of home births conducted under the Sisters’ supervision.
Along with the awful impact of substandard housing on the inhabitants of Poplar, the upcoming episodes will also address stories from the Nigerian and Sylheti populations as well as from around the docks. Other topics covered will be cerebral palsy, porphyria, tetanus, and tuberculosis.
Trixie and Matthew have also recently tied the knot, but it’s unclear how Olly Rix’s future on the TV series will pan out, given the current state of things. Opening in 1969, Season 13 features a number of breakthroughs for midwives, including new medical advancements, alterations in the UK’s societal structure, elections, and breakthroughs in fashion and music.
Season 13 Cast
Before diving into Call the Midwife Season 13 Episode 1, let’s quickly talk about the cast. It is not surprising that Call the Midwife has a constantly revolving cast after twelve seasons of critical acclaim.
Although a lot of midwives, physicians, and nuns come and go, several main characters have remained throughout all twelve seasons. Some of the show’s main characters are Shelagh Turner, Dr. Turner, Sister Julienne, Trixie Franklin, Fred Buckle, and, subsequently, Aylward.
Sadly, Lucille announced on Instagram early this year that she was not coming back for Season 13. Thus, there will be significant changes in place for the upcoming season. She expressed her gratitude to the audience for “rocking” her role and her crew during the six years she spent filming Call the Midwife.
According to reports, Matthew Aylward has been fired from the show. There are also suspicions that he won’t be back for Season 13. For now, though, we can be thankful that Season 13 has wrapped up production and that one of the stars who has been confirmed to return is McGann’s Dr. Turner.
He posted a behind-the-scenes photo of his former hangout on set on Twitter, writing, “Hello again, old friend.”
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Season 13 will feature newcomers Rosalind (Natalie Quarry) and Joyce (Renee Bailey), as well as returning cast members Megan Cusack in the role of Nancy Corrigan, Linda Bassett in the role of Nurse Crane, Zephryn Taitte in the role of Cyril Robinson, and Annabelle Apsion in the role of Violet Buckle.
