The docuseries will focus on Gypsy Blanchard, who was found guilty of her mother’s deadly stabbing only a few days after her release from prison. Gypsy, 32, had been released from jail early on Thursday, December 28. In 2015, she was arrested in Wisconsin along with her then-boyfriend for her mother’s murder, “Dee Dee” Blanchard.
The docuseries includes phone and in-person conversations with Gypsy while she served time at Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Facility. Gypsy said that because she was raised in Missouri, she was a victim of Munchausen syndrome, or illness by proxy, a psychiatric disorder in which a caretaker pretends to be unwell to make the person in their care feel better and get sympathy.
The Story
Blanchard Gypsy Rose Blanchard was born July 27, 1991, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana, to Rod and Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. We’ll just call her Dee Dee. Rod and 23-year-old Dee Dee separated during the pregnancy. He was just 17 and over his head, and he felt he was married for the wrong reasons.
When Gypsy was just 1 year old, her mother would claim that she suffered from sleep apnea, a condition in which breathing stops or slows for short periods while sleeping. By the time she was eight years old, Dee Dee had somehow convinced doctors that Gypsy had leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and many, many other conditions, and these conditions would leave Gypsy bound to a wheelchair.
Dee Dee was even able to talk doctors into surgically inserting a feeding tube into Gypsy’s stomach. This is the first memory of surgery Gypsy would recall.
She eventually went through multiple surgeries on her eyes and the removal of salivary glands. And likely a combination of the effects of these procedures and medication, Gypsy’s teeth would rot and require extraction… she was molded into her role.
It turns out that the litany of medications that she was giving the young girl was actually producing the symptoms that the doctors were trying to treat.
They would go from local doctor to local doctor, and Dee Dee would manipulate each one of them into treating different ailments. Now let’s discuss when Episode 3 of The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard will be released and what will happen in it.
