Raynier Brizuela’s latest project, Video City: Be Kind, Please Rewind is a time travel movie that leaves viewers wanting more of the romance between its lead characters. Starring Ruru Madrid and Yassi Pressman, this 104-minute-long film was released in later parts of 2023.
The storyline of Video City revolves around Han and Ningning, two soulmates who even surpass time to be together. After visiting a desolate and abandoned internet cafe near his home, Han finds a cassette player that somehow transports him back to the 90s.
There he meets Ningning, a worker at the older version of the Internet cafe called Video City in 1995. Regardless of the decades between their existence, Han and Ningning begin to fall for each other while also helping themselves fulfill their dreams.
A director from the future and an aspiring actress from the past, this one-of-a-kind love story is a new tale of love beyond time. Besides Ruru Madrid and Yassi Pressman in the roles of Han and Ningning, the rest of the cast of Video City consists of TJ Valderrama as Jepp, Suzette Ranillo in the role of Anita, and Soliman Cruz as Han’s father.
What Happens In Video City Be Kind Please Rewind’s Ending?
After Han keeps visiting Video City and hanging out with Ningning quite a few times, they realize that they have never felt so alive before, and spending time together is making both of them become better versions of themselves. Han reveals that Anita is his mom, and this surprises Ningning.
Despite knowing that the car cassette player worked in mysterious ways, Han tries to come up with ways to increase the time he spent with Ningning in 1995. Just as Han had predicted earlier, the car stops transporting him back into the past once the 12 days are over.
With each day, Han’s time in 1995 kept decreasing until it was finally the last day. They had planned for a date to celebrate their love, but Han never shows up and Ningning leaves with a broken heart. She tries to keep herself motivated and audition for multiple roles, but none of the producers hire her in the end.
Now that Han wasn’t going to come back and her ambition of being an actress was far away from reach, Ningning decided to leave for her hometown. Before leaving, she sees the camcorder footage that Han had recorded for her in the future.
Meanwhile, in 2023, Han meets up with Jepp, who lets him know that Ningning never made it to the future and died on the night she tried to go back to her hometown in 1995. This frustrates Han, and he obsessively tries to transport to the 90s using the car.
It eventually transports him to Ningning, where he stops her from getting on the ferry and saves her life. Their reunion lasts for a short time as Han is again transported back into the future.
Ending Explained
Having confessed their love for each other, Han gains a new sense of life and tries to become a better director. He completes his thesis and presents it wonderfully, with the work even being appreciated by his mom Anita.
Han has no idea what happened to Ningning after he saved her from the ferry, and instead of worrying about things that aren’t in his control, Han decides to continue living in hopes that he will one day find Ningning in the future.
Just as he had hoped for, Han receives a ticket to a movie screening called “One Day”. When the movie begins, Han notices that it was written by none other than Ninã Magdalena, the name that Han had told Ningning to use whenever she wanted to become a part of the movie world.
When Han turns around, he finds Ningning looking at him with eyes full of tears. A flashback into the past shows that Ningning had gone back to the cassette player and tried to come into the future to be with Han.
The machine was successful this time, giving Han and Ningning a chance to be together despite being from different eras of time. Instead of being an actor, Ningning decided to become a writer, as she was a much better fit for this role.
The ending of Video City shows Ningning coming into the future to be with Han. The cassette player works in mysterious ways, and it became the reason why soulmates were able to meet despite the 28-year difference.
While time travel romances are nothing new, Video City’s wholesome and fulfilling story makes it stand out from other recent movies in the genre. Video City: Be Kind, Please Rewind is now available to watch on Netflix globally.
