Some genres of music always touch the heart, and Country music will always remain at the top. Known as the King of Country music, George Strait is a familiar name in this genre and holds the record for the most number of songs on all charts.
With the success of “Unwound,” Strait started his extremely successful career at the age of 29 and has since come out with countless hits like “The Chair” & many other songs. George is also singlehandedly responsible for reviving the neotraditional genre at a time when country-pop was all the rage.
Twenty years after George Strait started his career, the Academy of Country Music named him the “Artist of the Decade,” which goes to show just how much of an influence this Texas-born singer had on the music genre. Conway Twitty used to be the one with the most No.1 hits on the Billboard charts, but this record was broken by Strait in 2009.
A humble Poteet farmer turned successful country singer, George has had a remarkable and inspiring journey that led him to become the 12th best-selling album artist in the US, surpassing even singers like Prince and Bob Dylan.
George Strait: Net Worth
Making good music since the 80s, George Strait has managed to collect a net worth of more than $300 million. Although George’s music is only popular within a certain age group in the era of TikTok and reels, there was a time when Strait’s music was at the top in almost all states of the US.
Songs like I Cross My Heart, The Chair, and many others all have millions of views, and these keep increasing each day. With so many successful songs that have occupied the top positions on the billboard chart, it’s easy to understand why George Strait’s net worth would be higher than some well-known singers from recent times.
Despite his huge net worth, Strait continues to live some part of his life as a farmer and resides in his hometown in Texas. Strait also owns a huge mansion that’s worth more than $7.5 Million and occupies a space of 8,000 square feet. This San Antonio home is filled with recreational spots and has a huge pool and large windows that justify the million-dollar price.
This isn’t the only house owned by George Strait, as he also holds the property rights to various ranches, mansions, and other places in Texas. He owns simple cars like the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD since Strait spends most of his time at his farms. George has a Bentley, a Gulfstream G450 business jet, and a rare Cadillac too, but the Bentley was put up for auction in 2017.
About The Country Singer
Born and brought up in Poteet, Texas, George used to watch his father, John Byron Strait, as he would operate his 2,000-acre cattle ranch while also working as a mathematics teacher in Frio County. Strait grew up spending most of his time at the family ranch, which explains the cowboy image that he is so popularly known for.
Strait’s interest in music began after joining a local band called The Stoics while still in High School. The influence for their music was songs by The Beatles, but when Strait learned about singers like Hank Thompson and Frank Sinatra, he had a complete change of mind and decided to work towards country music.
After eloping with his high school sweetheart, George joined the military and was discharged in 1975. Years later, Strait released his first single, Unwound, in the spring, and this soon became a sensation within Texas and other states. People started calling Strait the “New-traditionalist,” as his music was a breath of fresh air for the Country genre.
The whole 80s decade had 17 of George Strait’s songs at the top of the charts. While his professional life was doing well, Strait faced a family tragedy when his young daughter Jenifer passed away in an automobile accident. After taking a much-deserved break from interviews and music, George later returned to the top with 11 straight No.1 hits.
George has also been a part of productions like The Soldier (1982) and King of the Hill (2003). Earlier this year, in 2023, Rolling Stone put George Strait on the 156th rank for the Greatest Singers of All Time List.
