However, the person turned out to like Jeon Somi, being the exception. To the newbies, she is also signed to the same agency. What did she comment? Why did she delete that? People were quick enough to read that and eventually sparked debates online.
Jeon Somi is a South Korean-Canadian singer and rapper. Born in 2001, she is now 22 years old. As hinted earlier, she is signed to YG Entertainment’s subsidiary – The Black Label. She was a member of the group- I.O.I and won the survival show- Produce 101.
It was in 2019 when Jeon Somi made her solo debut with “Birthday.” You must listen to it. Some of her other hit musical works are – Game Plan, XOXO, What You Waiting For, and Dumb Dumb. How can we forget to mention, Jeon Somi also co-hosted the 2023 MAMA Awards?
Besides music, Jeon Somi also has made several endorsement deals. In other words, she has worked for various top brands such as Prada, Hada Labo, Louis Vuitton, etc.
No wonder, Jeon Somi’s distinctive voice, confidence, beauty, and personality are very attractive. It’s quite obvious for people to love her. Jeon has achieved a lot at this young age. But, this time, things turned out to be a bit heavier.
Well, it’s always recommended to focus on self-love. But, when you become too much obsessive about yourself, it might cause issues, at times, for others. It’s better not to show in public. Similarly, Jeon Somi commented on something that was not appreciated by most people, sparking controversy. When the idol was deleted, things became more serious. What did Jeon Somi do? Here is what we know.
Jeon Somi’s Delete Comment Sparked Controversy: Is She Self-Obsessed?
Whether Jeon Somi is self-obsessed or not, that’s a different thing. We are no one to judge her like that. It’s not needed at all. What’s more concerning is the case that sparked controversy. Right?
There are several artists and Kpop groups that are signed to YG Entertainment. For example – TREASURE, Blackpink, BigBang, and many more. An alleged person made a post that somehow showcased his hatred towards the artists signed to the aforementioned agency. It’s okay. Not everyone has to like everyone. There is always this saying.
Nowadays, most people appear like an open book. They share their likes and dislikes, online, through posts. That’s what the person did, on X (formerly called Twitter). On 7 December, Jeon Somi came across that particular post and felt like commenting. She wrote, “Yay, they like me.”
Following that, it seemed like Jeon Somi might have gone a little overboard this time. People started criticizing her, some even addressed her using certain adjectives like- “self-obsessed”, “selfish”, etc. Later, due to this backlash, she deleted the comment. However, things didn’t just stop. One person wrote, “No. Somi needs to shut up sometimes because even though it’s sarcasm, some people who don’t stand those groups will throw hate at them. She has a choice to ignore it but she chose to reply looking like a clout chaser.”
Well, Jeon Somi also had some of her fans who took her side. They defended her stating that she didn’t demean any of the YG Entertainment’s artists but just jokingly joined the post. In other words, she didn’t mean to shade her fellow artists. Many fans believed her comment was sarcastic.
One must note, that it all started because of a trend On X. To the newbies, people have been lately doing this, where they use “We Like You” before the names of their favorite Kpop artists and groups. While, to the hated ones, “F*ck.” Knowing this, the person showed his hatred towards YG Entertainment and added his favoritism towards Jeon Somi.
People took Jeon Somi’s comment very seriously. Some even wished that she should be held accountable for her actions. She has always been very carefree and this attitude is unconventional in the Kpop industry. What do you think? Best wishes!
