Exciting news for fans of the popular anime and manga series “My Hero Academia” came out of Jump Festa 2024 events this past weekend. Series creator Kohei Horikoshi appeared at the My Hero Academia stage event on December 16th with several announcements about the franchise’s future.
The biggest reveal was that a fourth My Hero Academia film is now officially in production and slated for release in the summer of 2024. This keeps up the trend of new My Hero Academia movies dropping annually.
A vibrant new key visual was shown off, giving viewers a taste of what’s to come with the new movie’s characters and story. Additionally, Horikoshi unveiled both an official website and Twitter account dedicated to the fourth film, where fans can likely expect more updates and promotions as the release date nears.
While details are still scarce, the movie announcement itself is enough to excite My Hero Academia’s passionate fanbase and have them counting down the days to next summer.
With three well-received films already produced, anticipation will be high to see this next cinematic installment in the popular superhero world.
My Hero Academia’s 4th Anime Film To Release In Summer 2024
My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi provided some additional tidbits about the plans for the newly announced fourth anime film.
He revealed that like the previous movies, this one will also feature a completely original story conceived by him.
Horikoshi will be heavily involved in the movie’s creation by overseeing the character designs and serving in a general supervisory role.
This promises the film will fit smoothly into his acclaimed superpowered universe.
The mangaka also commented that story-wise, the movie will align with the continuity of the My Hero Academia anime timeline.
Specifically, it will take place in the aftermath of the collapse of the hero society depicted in the recent fifth season. As Horikoshi noted, “The society that finally collapsed successfully in the anime will be the setting this time.”
While full details on the plot and staff have yet to come, Horikoshi’s comments set the stage for another exciting movie.
With the anime’s rich world as a backdrop following a climactic shift in status quo, fans have plenty to speculate on while they await more updates leading up to next summer’s fourth film.
More About My Hero Academia
The popular anime and manga series My Hero Academia is set in a unique superhero society. In this fictional world, around 80% of the population has developed special abilities called “Quirks” due to evolution.
These Quirks range widely in type and power and can be inherited by children.
Individuals who utilize their Quirks to fight crime and conduct rescue operations earn the respected title of Heroes.
Exceptional Heroes also gain celebrity status recognition as “Pro Heroes” and are ranked in popularity. However, even amateur rookie heroes can achieve fame through noble deeds.
In the past, independent vigilantes also took on perilous tasks like combating villains who weaponized their Quirks for harm. Initially, the government’s Hero Commission enlisted and empowered these vigilantes.
But as vigilantes organized further, the unregulated activity became complicated and concerning.
Now, students are barred from unsanctioned vigilantism by strict laws regulating Quirk use. While inherently illegal, some vigilantes persist in wearing makeshift costumes while evading oversight.
They represent a moral gray area in the evolved hero society now centered on sanctioned Pros and newcomers rising through the ranks.
Quirk-Fueled World and the Journey of Izuku Midoriya
My Hero Academia focuses on a young protagonist named Izuku Midoriya, who dreams of becoming a superhero despite facing bullying from his former friend, Katsuki Bakugo, for having no powers.
Izuku’s life changes forever after an encounter with the world’s #1 hero, All Might, the only one strong enough to face arch-villain All For One.
Seeing Izuku’s heroic spirit, All Might pass on his spectacular strength-boosting Quirk “One For All” to the boy to succeed him as the next wielder.
Now gifted, Izuku enrolls along with Bakugo in the prestigious U.A. High School to train the next generation of heroes.
Over their school year, Izuku and their classmates pushed themselves to improve through various threats.
These include the sinister League of Villains, led by All For One’s protege Tomura Shigaraki, who aims to destroy hero society and kill All Might.
The League utilizes artificial monster-like creatures called “Nomu” and inside knowledge of the U.A.’s workings, making teachers suspect a spy at the school.
Through this all, Izuku progresses on his quest to master One For All and fulfill his destiny as All Might’s heir in a clash between good and evil.
