Where was the movie filmed?
From the home of Bridgerton to the University of Oxford, let’s take a look at some locations.
Bridge of Sighs, Oxford
Most of Wonka’s story building has been surrounded by the town of Oxford, which has been a favorite in period dramas and modern college stories.
This time, Radcliff camera and Bridge of Sighs (Hertford Bridge) were seen doing a cameo. Crowley said that they used Oxford as a connecting link.
When the movie was in the pre-production phase, he and director Paul King went to Oxford to select some of the locations. King’s enthusiasm was ticked by the comic, famous low-lying bridge.
Mapledueham, Berkshire
The Eagle Has Landed was the residence of Michael Caine’s WW thriller. This slow country is making its return with Wonk on the big screen. Crowley said they filmed many of the childhood and flashback scenes here.
He added that Berkshire has canals and the Thames and beautiful trees, so they shot some scenes of Willy with his mother.
Lyme Regis, Dorset
In the beginning scene, Willy’s cargo ship socks are in the harbor. These scenes have been reeled in the Dorset harbor Town of Lyme Regis.
It sent Timothee down the footsteps of Meryl Streep’s The French Lieutenant’s Woman, which was released in 1981. Crowley said he wanted to open the film with Wonka in a fictional Roald Dahl city.
He has always been a bit favorable to Lyme Regis because of The French Lieutenant’s Woman. He likes the stone cobb, the wall of the harbor, and its curvy architecture.
The Colonnade, Bath
Other than the Leavesden set, most of the movie was shot at Bath and Oxford, which was merged into the set’s design. Crowley said when Wonka goes to Scrubbit and Bleach near the water, that is Bath Colonnade near the Avon.
The humpback bridge across the Bleacher and Scrubbit was made on the back lot. He said as a production designer, there are so many things to piece together, just like a puzzle.
St Paul’s Cathedral, London
Some of the scenes of Paddington 2 were filmed by Paul King on the St Paul, and now he was back with Wonka’s entrance to the base of the chocolate cartel. Crawley said it had a hard elegance that suits the chocolate cartel.
They made an exterior King’s door, which was huge, on the Leavesden back lot. As soon as you passed through those doors, you were in St Paul. The confessional podium was in St Paul, and they made it on the set with an elevator.
Rivoli Ballroom, Brockley
Rivoli Ballroom, situated in South East London, is rapidly turning into a movie star on its own. Some of the flicks like The Avengers and Legend have been shot there.
Now, it will make an appearance in Wonka. The post-credit scenes of the movie with Larry Chuckleswroth sharing a comeback gig in a stand-up style. Crawley notes that they were there for a few days; it has been a long way to travel along with the crew, but it is a good location. Another location is Eltham Palace, which was seen in Wonka.
It was used for Slugwoth’s office and hidden ledgers. Crowley said that mixing locations has been fun. It will not be distracting to the audience.
Verulamium Park, St. Albans
In the movie, you will see Willy and Noodle visiting a zoo. This gave Crowley and King to redesign a few aspects of the zoo. The expansive parkland of St Albans was an ideal spot for filming.
