In the prior installment, Aheuman displayed intense, uncontrolled fury after recent events. This explosive reaction has readers curious and anticipating how Aquilla will handle the clearly unstable Aheuman moving forward in the next Revenge of the Iron-Blooded Sword Hound Chapter 55.
Aheuman had cryptically told Aiyen that Vikir had left the final judgment on the situation up to their ancestors. So Aheuman decided they would await the great forebears’ definitive ruling.
When the ancestor suddenly appeared, Aiyen was stunned. Vikir was equally shocked that this venerable forbear had seemingly used prohibited resurrection magic on a Ballak elder of the past.
But Vikir remained unconvinced such a feat was even feasible for a shaman like Aheuman. Vikir wondered if Aheuman had possibly transformed himself into an undead as well.
Amused by Vikir’s skepticism, Aheuman implied that living amongst the Ballak people as he did, he would be foolish not to have certain safeguards in place.
Recap and Review
Aheuman admonished it was premature for shock and awe. He ominously revealed more than one crypt existed within the warriors’ hallowed peaks.
Aheuman commanded his undead legions to battle with zeal against their own honored ancestors. Aquilla rallied everyone to brace for the imminent clash.
She reminded them these adversaries were merely Aheuman’s soulless puppets now. Proper deference could be shown to the ancestors only after laying their undead forms back to rest.
Aquilla emphasized survival must be the foremost priority. Displaying remarkable archery skills, Aquilla systematically slew death knights of prowess rivaling even the most elite graduates – felling one with every arrow.
Vikir realized legends of Aquilla safeguarding the forest from imperial forces were indeed based on truth, not mere hearsay.
Assured of her peerless skills, Vikir urged Aiyen to follow him, certain that with Aquilla present, success was guaranteed.
But Aheuman ominously warned Vikir would come to rue exiling him. Though having resurrected ancestral spirits already, Aheuman still commanded his possessed skeleton servant to undertake some undisclosed task.
For even with Aquilla’s genius exceeding that of even the greatest village chiefs in history, Aheuman could take no chances while she remained.
Yet Aheuman remained convinced that despite her prodigious talents, Aquilla was still no match for what he had set in motion.
Tracking Aheuman, Vikir and Aiyen grew puzzled, stumbling upon the intricate pillared site of his occult rituals and chanting.
Convinced Aheuman’s suspicious designs must be halted at once, Aiyen resolved then and there to cut him down where he stood.
Meanwhile, Aheuman’s occult ritual proved successful in summoning none other than the divine archer of Ballak lore himself, the legendary Adonai. Vikir and Aiyen were stunned at his materialization before their very eyes.
Though Vikir managed to deflect one of Adonai’s arrows with a protective aura, the glancing blow still inflicted considerable damage. Vikir realized they could not underestimate this foe.
Spoilers and Expectations
Aiyen suffered a direct hit from one of the arrows and was left incapacitated by the excruciating pain. She told Vikir her wound felt as if it was burning, leading him to suspect poison at work.
Considering Aiyen’s reaction, Vikir now believed the tales of Adonai battling a mythical monster. For it became clear Adonai’s formidable bow was constructed from the remains of that very creature itself.
As her anguish intensified, Aiyen urgently pleaded with Vikir to abandon her and save himself while he still could. But Aheuman quickly shattered any hopes of escape, vowing neither would leave this place alive.
