Long running medical television drama series ER premiered back in 1994. As the medical drama show was a massive hit amongst viewers, the show went on till 2009 and ran for 15 back to back seasons. While fans remember Shane West from the hit romantic movie, A Walk To Remember, the actor initially rose to fame after starring in ER, where he played the role of Dr. Ray Barnett.
The character was loved by viewers. Given his chemistry with co-star, Mandy Moore, Shane West revealed that he and Moore did discuss about a potential guest spot for him on the hit series, This Is Us. The actor admitted that it is the right thing to do and he is hundred percent interested. Shane West later stated that when he starred on ER, he was in high school and that he wasn’t acting, so he was not aware of the fact that ER is such a huge show.
The actor also admitted that although the makers tailored the character to Shane, West admitted that it was very nerve-wracking for him to join such an iconic series in its 11th season. What Happened To Ray On ER?
As Ray seemingly got extremely drunk and met with a terrifying accident as he was hit by a truck. Later, things took a tragic turn after he was shifted to another hospital and the medical team made the shocking discovery that Ray needed to have both of his legs amputated below the knee.
Following the accident, Ray went through a huge change and he soon made the decision to move back to his hometown of Baton Rouge and soon left Chicago for good. The character again returned in the Season 13 finale, and thankfully, that was not the last fans saw of him.
Ray also got his happy ending as he revealed that he got some brand new prosthetic legs that allowed him to feel more comfortable which he happily shows off in the final season. Ray made a comeback for three episodes in the final season of the series and reveals all about his new job in the disability physical rehabilitation field.

Shane West played the role of Ray on ER. While talking about his time on the long running series, the actor stated that with ER, he was in the living hell of trying to put together this film that he ended up being very proud of, called What We Do Is Secret, while also talking about rock band, The Germs.
Shane explained that he did ER for three years, and that during the hiatus, he worked on shooting bits of What We Do Is Secret, while admittedly was getting more financing and trying to put it together. West explained joe he was trying to just film one damn movie, while admitting that it is the heartache of independent films.

Shane West does make a comeback in the series finale. Shane West’s Ray heads back to County General with a new zeal on life and he also got his eyes for the woman that got away, yes, we are talking about his ex-roommate and love, Neela. Ray came back at the right time, when Neela needed that friend and that romance was back.
While talking about the character’s anticipated return, executive producer Joe Sachs explains how Ray is in no way appears disabled and how he has been through hell and has come out as a stronger guy and is now matured and is well aware of is important in his life.
As viewers saw how Ray’s return also affected Neela in a big way, and seemingly stirred the depths of that relationship and made her question.
