Netflix has brought Squid Game back to life with its all-new reality competition series, and with the way things are going in the current episodes, this real-life game seems to be filled with just as many twists and surprises.
Squid Game: The Challenge is a dramatic competition series that takes inspiration from South Korean drama and tries to bring the thrilling challenge into real life (without the fatal consequences). Just as shown in the drama, the winner of this physically and mentally challenging competition would get to take home almost $4.5 million.
A collaboration between Netflix, Studio Lambert, and The Garden, this reality series takes 456 players and makes them go through all kinds of intriguing challenges until only one player remains.
Popular games from the TV series, like the dalgona shapes, the phone test, and marbles were incorporated in Squid Game: The Challenge. It also has new challenges that are just as exciting, but seeing those iconic tasks happen with real people is what makes the series more entertaining.
Out of the initial 456, only 63 players of the real-life Squid Games remain. They’ll be facing the marble task in the next episode, where they will be competing against their closest partners in the game.
Recap
The remaining contestants gear up for yet another challenging night of the competition. Some of the players are presented with musical boxes and have to complete the task given inside them. Player 183 goes first and has to select two contestants to eliminate.
The player goes with 026 and 141, as they were people he hadn’t talked to or just didn’t like that they were a part of the dorm. Up next was player 375, who ended up getting eliminated upon opening the box. Player 087 is tasked with eliminating any one player, and he chooses to go with 176 as they were a threat to his alliance.
Player 130 opens the box to find that he’s received an advantage in the next game. The only one who’s left on the stage is player 229, who gets the chance to eliminate 3 people from the game.
She chooses to eliminate player 130, who had just gotten an advantage before. After eliminating the rest of the players, only 63 of the 456 people now remain in Squid Game. Later, 5 players are asked to volunteer for chores. 287, 054, and others chose to go for the task, as winning it would guarantee the dorm with a nice little treat.
The players had to squeeze the oranges given to them and fill a total of three jars. Once they complete the chores, they go back to the dorms and are rewarded for completing the task successfully. The treat turns out to be a fun picnic, where they’re grouped in pairs and asked to take a picnic blanket each.
When the players take a closer look at the baskets, they find marbles hidden at the bottom. The mood in the dorm changes completely, as the pairs would now have to eliminate each other in the end. The mother-son duo, the best friends, and the couples, all now face a terrible challenge that’s sure to test their relationship to the fullest.
