Doctor Who has reached its 60th anniversary recently, and on this occasion, it decided to air three special episodes on Saturdays. The first special episode aired on Saturday, November 25, at 1:30 PM ET or 6:30 PM GMT. In the special 60th anniversary episodes, the return of David Tenant and Catherine Tate was seen in the first episode.
Among the cast of the special episodes is Donna’s daughter Rose (played by Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney). Meep is a cuddly but deceiving character whose voiceover is done by the well-known Miriam Margolyes: outbursts and a distinct lack of filter nature voice artists.
The return of the cast is not the only thing; the sci-fi series has returned with showrunner Russell T. Davies. Ncuti Gatwa will be seen as the fifteenth doctor after the 60th-anniversary special episodes. On the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, a few cast members and others shared their Moment of Me.
Miriam Margolyes, the voice behind Meep
Margolyes has done the voiceover of Meep, who is well known for her work in the Harry Potter franchise as the voice actor of Professor Sprout, which brought her fame and a rise in her career as well.
Later on, she made her second success as the voice actor of Meep in Doctor Who and the Star Beast Comic Strip. In 1980, during the time when Meep was a small, furry, cute owl with almond-shaped eyes, this cute little creature turned into a destructive creature who would destroy London as well as its inhabitants.
In each scene, the voice of Meep gave off the feel of a realistic voice of the creature, not like a voiceover. Though Margolye’s voice has an expressive nature, she has been able to keep that under control and do the entire thing without any utterance of expletives, which earned her immense appreciation from the viewers. She has also previously landed in hot water after swearing during live radio and TV appearances.
The praises Miriam Margolyes received from the viewers
After a while, Miriam Margolyes made her appearance as the voice actor of Meep in the special episodes of the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, and viewers started remembering her earlier work in the series as well and appreciating her.
Some viewers jokingly said, “Knighthood for Russell T Davies for preventing Miriam Margolyes from swearing for a whole hour on Doctor Who,” while others added, “Well, that was just bloody sensational! Every single second… just everything!” another wrote. “Miriam Margolyes as Meep without swearing. Russell T. Davies, take a well-earned bow.”
While talking about her own experience, Margolyes shared what her friends used to tell her about her work life, which she quoted, “My friends say I haven’t changed, but I’ve always been as naughty and outspoken as I am now.” Miriam Margolyes was recently forced to apologize in September for dropping the F-bomb while on a lively episode of This Morning.
Related to her personal life and learning new changes, Margolyes said, “What I have learned is to be kind. Otherwise, I’m sort of perfect, really.
I’m 82; I fart a lot, p*** a lot, but I’m still going.” This shows that even at this age, she is in love with herself, and she still works even though she might be facing little difficulties that her age must be causing.
While appreciating Margolyes’s work, a viewer of Doctor Who said, “I just have to say that Miriam Margolyes was a massive standout with her performance as the Meep!” while the other one added a comment for Meep’s character by saying, “Cute and cuddly one minute, pure evil the next. Brilliant.”
It was like a surprise for the viewers to see that Margolyes made it through the entire episode without a swear-on and said, “With Miriam Margolyes voicing the Meep, am I the only one waiting for a swear word drop?”
The experience of working for Doctor Who was definitely an opportunity for Miriam Margolyes, as she appreciated the production house by saying, “I’m relieved I got to work on Doctor Who before I died. With sci-fi, you never know. Thank you for making an old woman very happy.
