After nearly a decade away from the WWE, CM Punk has made an incredible return.
At the United States Survivor Series event on Saturday night, the crowd erupted in excitement upon hearing his theme music. Punk expressed vocal dissatisfaction with the WWE in 2014, citing poor storylines and what he considered to be inadequate medical attention.
His return had been the subject of much speculation, particularly following his recent split from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a rival wrestling organization.
Triple H disclosed CM Punk’s return
Triple H, the chief content officer of WWE, disclosed that CM Punk’s decision to return to the Chicago show was made on the spur of the moment.
During a post-event press conference, Triple H was excited about Punk’s unexpected comeback and said it came together quickly. He emphasized that before the abrupt and unexpected announcement, there had been less conjecture regarding Punk’s comeback.
Punk had previously hinted that he wouldn’t be returning to WWE, and Triple H noted that people and organizations grow and change over ten years.
CM Punk, also known as Phil Brooks, made a brief foray into mixed martial arts with UFC after leaving WWE in 2014. After the All Out pay-per-view event at Wembley Stadium earlier this year, he left AEW, which he later joined in 2021.
Fans were ecstatic when CM Punk unexpectedly returned to the WWE at the Survivor Series event in Chicago. There was no ring entrance or wrestling match, but his presence nonetheless created a lot of buzz.
Netizens are shocked by the news
Social media users were shocked to see CM Punk return to WWE at the Survivor Series event; many called it the “biggest pop in the history of wrestling.”
After seeing CM Punk’s final match for AEW, fans like Joe Clarkson expressed their complete surprise, saying they never expected to see the wrestler return to the business. Clarkson underlined the significance of CM Punk, saying that he is a unique star of this caliber and a conversation starter.
Sabrina Nicole, a different WWE fan, expressed her excitement about the event as “exciting” for wrestling fans and said she got chills when she heard CM Punk’s song.
She finds it strange to see CM Punk return and anticipates future developments, such as a potential feud with Seth Rollins.

In 1999, Brooks began his professional wrestling career in the independent circuit, where he gained notoriety with Ring of Honor (ROH) and won the ROH World Championship.
He won three World Heavyweight Championships, two WWE Championships, and once each for the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the ECW World Heavyweight Championship after joining WWE in 2005. In just 203 days, Brooks became the 19th WWE Triple Crown Champion by winning the World Tag Team Championship as well.
Notable accomplishments include winning back-to-back Money in the Bank ladder matches, winning Superstar of the Year at the 2011 Slammy Awards, and being selected by Pro Wrestling Illustrated readers for PWI Wrestler of the Year in both 2011 and 2012.
After growing disillusioned with WWE, Brooks amicably left the organization and announced his retirement from professional wrestling in 2014. After rejoining All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and winning the AEW World Championship twice, he returned in 2021.
He was fired from AEW in September 2023, though, because of backstage scandals, and he rejoined WWE two months later.
