Fans of the popular adult animated sitcom Rick and Morty haven’t stopped watching for a good chuckle, even if Justin Roiland took Ian Cardoni’s role as the show’s voice actor for the seventh season. Ignore the fact that the cartoonist’s irresponsible behavior led to his dismissal.
Thus far, the episode has presented us with Mr. Poopybutthole, Rick’s encounter with Susan Sarandon’s Dr. Wong, and several other story threads. However, as the season progresses, it appears that the program is weaving a narrative around the backstories of its supporting cast members.
We’re less than halfway through this animated science fiction series, which is undergoing a rebuilding phase, with 63 episodes created thus far. After Justin Roiland left, Rick and Morty got new voices, but most of their goofy, ridiculous actions are still there. The seventh season is arguably the most interesting one thus far.
Recap
When Rick declines Morty’s question about adventures after finding him inebriated in the garage, Morty confesses he has been hoarding fully punched cards in anticipation of a free Morty adventure, which debuted in the first episode of The Vindicators.
Morty confesses he’s been keeping notes on their experiences as receipts (with made-up names), which Rick rejects. Rick subsequently contacts a friend to request an audit of Morty’s “receipts” because he doesn’t think Morty is being completely honest about these experiences.
It is revealed that Rick’s acquaintance is a creature known as the “Observer,” who observes and knows everything in all realities at all times. Rick begins questioning the Observer about the adventures Morty has listed after the opening titles.
In the first, “Truth or Dare,” Rick forces a battle between two guards—one who reveals the truth and the other who lies—by demonstrating that one of them had slept with the other’s partner. Morty eating a Carl’s Jr. Western Bacon burger is revealed to be one of the adventures.
Another is called “Maximum Overdrive with Clothes,” and a third is a Blade spoof that goes awry when the man who sells them the weapons takes too long to explain them. Then there is the infamous video of Rick changing into a leg, and another shows Morty changing into a boat after being punched because of Rick’s implants, only to end up adrift at sea with two bullies.
Before Rick rescues Morty, the bullies, and Morty form a relationship while trapped on a beach. One of them dies, and Morty is unable to transform back into a boat for an unknown reason. After that, the observer only wants to watch more flashbacks to moments we’ve never seen, but Rick and Morty have a conversation and come to an agreement.
After Rick gets caught talking trash about Observer, he pays him to leave, and Rick and Morty continue eating microwave burritos. The Observer reappears to make fun of Rick and Morty by showing them films from their earlier experiences, some of which aren’t seen in the series.
For example, Rick makes fun of Morty for sticking his tongue in an alien gorilla’s nose. Observer won’t go and starts making fun of the other Smith family members—who eventually come to despise Observer—by showing them embarrassing pictures from their pasts.
In one video, Jerry is shown attempting to retrieve a diamond that Rick tossed away before inadvertently getting an injection that caused him to urinate acidicly. Nevertheless, he is accustomed to it and is not embarrassed by it.
Then, in Summer’s clip, we witness aliens kidnapping the most attractive individuals on Earth, and Summer is ashamed to learn that she was spared. Room In the video, Beth can be seen farting during a meeting for revolution. Additional footage demonstrates Morty’s continued embarrassing exploits.
