Yoshihiro Togashi just revealed Hunter x Hunter’s ending in a recent interview. The news is spreading like wildfire in the anime community since everyone is talking about it. No one expected this to happen, but Togashi cares for us all, and he did the inevitable by revealing the ending.
You may wonder why he revealed the ending out of the blue. So, if you have been following Huter x Hunter manga, you may know Togashi is facing serious health issues, and because of that, he puts the Manga on hiatus now and then.
Just recently, on October 1, 2023, he tweeted on X that he started working on the Manga. But just a couple of hours ago, in an interview, Togashi revealed the ending, saying that he fears he may die before completing the Manga.
It’s sad to hear this from him, but it’s the ground truth of the reality that we have to face every day. So, thinking about the viewers, Togashi revealed what he has decided for the ending of Hunter X Hunter. So, without wasting a second, let’s see how Togashi decided on the ending for Hunter X Hunter.
Hunter X Hunter Ending
For the ending of Hunter X Hunter, Togashi has prepared three scenarios: A, B, and C. While considering the proportion reaction from the reader, ranging from satisfaction to dissatisfaction, ending A is set to have a satisfactory rate of 50% and 20% dissatisfaction (the remaining 30% must be those who find it okay/alright).
He said that this doesn’t imply a high rating, but for him, reaching this will be secure in a way that doesn’t complicate the matter with high criticism.
For ending B, readers’ opinions will be divided similarly between satisfaction and dissatisfaction (50/50). And for ending C, he thinks it will have a satisfactory rate of 10% and a dissatisfaction rate of 90%.
You may wonder why he keeps ending C even as an option. He said that it is because of his personal preference, but fundamentally, he wants to think till death about the ending to a point where he might not choose any of these three and create what he finds most enjoyable, which is also his ideal and goal.
To give us a brighter picture, he shared scenario D, which fell out of the candidate scenarios for the ending. He said in the interview that IF fate takes him before finishing Hunter X Hunter, we should consider it the manga ending and that he would be happy if we readers forgive him for that.
The Ending (D)
The ending starts with a girl named Jin sitting next to the lake, holding a fishing rod. She stands motionlessly, waiting for her prey, and suddenly, the rod shakes violently. Jin gets excited and says, “I got him! I got the Lake Lord!”
She neatly lifts the Lake Lord onto her shoulder and stands before a woman. Jin tells the woman, “Like I promised, I caught the Lake Lord! Mom!” Jin approaches her mother and passionately says, “You must not tell me again that you must become a hunter.”
Her mother, with nothing up her sleeves, nods her head. While still carrying the Lake Lord on her shoulder, Jin walks away. The mother tells her husband Jin’s dream is never to leave the Island and inherit their place.
The father agrees with her while laughing, but the mother shows dissatisfaction, saying that her desire may change later. She tells her husband she wants to know why he and Jin are like this. She knows that it is because of the blood of Grandma Noko and Grandma Mito.
(context from the writer of this article: Mito IS Gon’s foster mother, and Noko was the only child on Whale Island, other than Gon. They were of the same age)
However, the woman is unaware that Grandma Niko and Grandma Miko are not related by blood. So the father smiles, knowing about it. The woman expresses her unwillingness as a mother by telling her that Grandpa Gon was a famous Hunter and this girl will one day leave the Island.
However, Jin insists that she will never leave. Even though she is no longer visible in the heart of the forest, she hears her parents’ conversion and responds definitely. The father gets amused seeing this and comments, “You have a sharp eye.”
The scene changes to the shop continuing its work from Mito’s days. The Lake Lord was cleanly cut, and its internal parts sorted. While working, Jin thinks about what happened earlier.
Jin’s monologue, “Mom never understands. When Grandpa (Gon) speaks joyfully about his memories of being a hunter, Grandma Noko quietly moves away from her seat. Every time Grandpa Gon declares, her belief is heard by someone.
Jin strikes the cutting board forcefully with a knife. Jin’s monologue. “I’m tired of this.” It crushes her heart, waiting for someone to return for months and years of sadness. She says to herself that she will make someone wait for her. Then, the nearby door opens, and a warm voice echoes.
From that door, a chubby-looking child enters, holding a plant. The child says in excitement, “I caught the Lake Lord for real! Well, let’s honor the whole Island with it!” Jin reptiles to him, “I always wanted to be with the person I want to be with, together, always!”
The child agrees with Jin by saying, “Yes!” With a huge smile on their faces, Jin and the child starts to cook the food/fish. Then a bird files from the Island to over a town and its people,
The son of them, the daughter of them, and the grandchild of another live in different places, exchanging smiles. They can be the children of THAT character and the grandchildren of THAT character. The bird iles away into the distance.
In the background, someone watches the scene.
