The lives of the citizens of Port Charles have become intertwined with ours, and we’re not complaining. The only thing sad about a show like General Hospital that has been running for so long is saying goodbye to some of your favorite characters.
This American soap opera, General Hospital, has been airing episodes since 1963, and with sixty-one seasons put out in a span of sixty years, we have become thoroughly attached to the series and its characters.
Set in the fictional town of Port Charles in New York, the show started based in a hospital setting but was later expanded to focus on the lives of the people of the entire town.
Actor John Beradino and actress Emily McLaughlin hardcarried the show in the beginning and the two were joined by more cast members as the show progressed. The two leads ended up being with the show till they both passed in the 1990s.
Avid fans would recognize the Quartermaine and the Spencer families from the show, which has been the focus of our attention since as far back as the late 1970s. The soap opera has not just managed to create a full-blown universe of its own, but it has also become the longest-running soap opera in the country.
The makers of the show have managed to create such intricate and complex storylines for characters on the show, and we are sure fans would be able to make family trees out of them.
Over the years of the show airing, fans have had to see many of their favorite characters leave the show and new ones replace their presence. They have also had to deal with rumors of cast members leaving, which we’re sure must be frustrating.
In the summer of this year, fans went through something similar that had them questioning if Ned Ashton would be leaving the show or not. If you’re still confused, then let us tell you all that you need to know about his departure.
Is Ned Leaving General Hospital?
Early June, in one of the episodes of the show, Ned, who was on his way to meet Drew to let him know about Nina’s tactics, was seen slipping on a towel while on his way and falling into the pool.
We witnessed him getting his head injured, cut to the next scene of him being taken to the hospital. This had many fans wondering if he was going to be killed and written off from the script and if that was the last of what we saw of him.
It did not take long for rumors that the actor Wally Kurth, who plays Ned on the show, was assumed to be leaving the show spread all over. The actor, who has been with the show for thirty years, was in no way about to leave the series because of a head injury.
It turns out the makers of the show planned on bringing a different angle to his story, one where he ends up with amnesia and a whole new stage persona that goes by the name Eddie Maine.
There are way too many characters attached to his storyline, including his ex-wife, Lois. The creators moved forth with Eddie and Olivia’s story as well, which fans had been waiting for so long.
Fans have also left the possibility of something happening between Lois and him if the makers ever decide to bring back the old Ned. Completely changing his personality and letting that impact his storyline so much mid-way is a bold move on the part of the makers, but also one that fans have been enjoying.
This change has opened a lot of possibilities for Wally’s character on the show, who revealed that when he was told of the change, he was more excited than nervous. Facing a new challenge at work was thrilling for him, and he worked hard to find the best way to bring Eddie’s character to life.
Fans can rest, keeping in mind that Eddie, Ned, or Wally Kurth is not leaving the show any time soon. Even if he did, you will always be able to switch to Peacock and watch him on Days of Our Lives, another soap opera featuring the actor.
