What started off as your average soap opera ended up becoming Hollywood’s longest-running series that still continues to milk season after season for avid fans of the show. ABC’s General Hospital is a show with around sixty-one seasons and a promise of many more to come.
Released first in 1963, the show is popular for being the only series to have ever received fourteen Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series. The show, created by Frank and Doris Hursley, was not all that well planned. The intricate details of the story and the characters in the show were added on as new seasons were being churned.
The series kicked off in a hospital setting in a town that was both fictional and unnamed, but during the 1970s, fans were told that the mysterious place where the story was set was a fictional town that the creators called Port Charles in New York.
The OG cast of the show had actors John Beradino and actress Emily McLaughlin, both of whom passed during the 1990s. Actress Rachel Ames joined the show in 1964 and continues to be a part of it even now. The number of actors who have been in the show, those who continue to star in it, and those who’ve left is huge.
The show left its hospital setting long back, moving on to broaden its horizon by focusing on the lives of the people of the town of Port Charles. Different families living in the fictional town have been the focus of the story at different times, thus creating a complex universe of its own.
One such family is the Quartermaine family, which has grabbed the focus of the makers since the 1970s. One of the family members of this family, Tracy Quartermaine, recently shocked fans by announcing her departure from the show.

Is Tracy leaving General Hospital?
With a new episode out on November 8th and Tracy deciding to pack her stuff to move to Amsterdam to be with Bobbie, fans wondered what this move was pointing towards.
She gave up Deception cosmetics, giving its control to Brook, further confirming her departure from the beautiful town of Port Charles. While many thought that these series of bold moves were just Tracy being true to her character, it turned out the actress Jane Elliot, who has been Tracy for so long, has finally decided to leave the show.
Tracy is revealed to be moving closer to Bobbie, so many fans think that their storyline might make a comeback later in the show. With Tracy gone, the makers of the show will be able to focus on other characters and storylines for the time being.
Actress Jane Elliot has worn Tracy’s personality as hers ever since she joined the cast of the show in 1978. She has been outstanding as Tracy, perfectly depicting her untamed nature. Of course, the actress was not always working in front of the camera.
She has previously taken breaks, giving us a break from her character arc, and it is because of this that fans are confused if it is the same this time around as well. Whether this goodbye is permanent or if she will be back in the future is still unclear, keeping fans at the edge of their seats, wondering what the future holds.
The show General Hospital, has a long history of fooling fans and bringing back beloved characters to create a more diverse story. Many continue to believe that Tracy will be back on the show, though it is not clear under what guise or circumstance.
The charisma that Elliot brought to the show got many hooked on the series and her character. Seeing her go was hard for fans, but it was also exciting because the soap opera will surely manage to bring about twists that will catch fans off guard.
