It is devastating news for Fear the Walking Dead fans, which was streaming on HBO Max. On 31 October, the show was removed from the platform along with a few other shows as well.
It seems like the Halloween party was not the only thing that could have gone wrong. The season and Fear the Walking Dead episodes have been available on HBO Max since 1 September 2023. The viewers were easily binge-watching till the announcement of removing AMC shows from HBO Max was made.
It was declared by Warner Bros. Discovery that all the AMC Networks shows will be removed from HBO Max on 31 October 2023, among which shows like Fear the Walking Dead, Ride with Norman Reedus, and Killing Eve are also included.
AMC Networks and Warner Bros. Discovery came together in August, collaborated, and announced “AMC+ Picks on Max” for a limited period to “programming pop-up.” This collaboration bought seven AMC shows and more than 200 episodes available on Max for 60 days.
These AMC shows have been available on HBO Max to the subscribers of Max’s ad-supported and ad-free plans at no additional cost, but customers without having any AMC+ subscriptions will have to pay for streaming AMC’s shows.
Why is Fear the Walking Dead not available on HBO Max?
Fear The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic horror drama directed by John Polson and produced by Square Head Pictures, Circle of Confusion Skybound Entertainment, and Valhalla Entertainment AMC Studios. It was originally released on AMC Networks on 23 August 2015.
The horror drama series has eight seasons, each released in different years, followed by its first release in 2015. In August 2023, all eight seasons were announced and released on HBO Max, which was recently removed from HBO Max during Halloween (31 October 2023).
In order to continue streaming the AMC Networks shows along with Fear the Walking Dead and Rides with Norman Reedus, the viewers will have to subscribe to AMC+ subscription to avail of AMC’s streaming services.
In June, Season 1 to Season 7 had already left the streaming platform, Hulu. In July, the announcement was made by AMC Networks that all the 8 Seasons of Fear the Walking Dead will be available to stream on AMC+.
AMC shows that got removed from Max on 31 October are Fear the Walking Dead (Season 1 to 7), Ride with Norman Reedus (Season 1 to 5), Killing Eve (Season 1 to 4), A Discovery of Witches (Season 1 to 3), Anne Rice’s interview with the Vampire (Season1), Dark winds (Season 1) and Gangs of London (Season 1 to 2).
All the above shows are available to stream on AMC+ even after 31 October with the subscriptions of AMC. For the new AMC+ with the ads, the cost is $4.99/month. As for ad-free AMC+, the monthly bill is $6.99 and $8.99 when billed annually.

While making a collaboration announcement with Max, Dan McDermott, the president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said, “This promotional arrangement with Warner Bros. Discovery is a terrific opportunity to serve up some of our most popular and critically acclaimed programming to millions of Max subscribers in the U.S. for two full months.”

He also said, “The AMC+ collection pop-up is an excellent example of how we can use innovative strategies to add value to our content offering.” “AMC Networks makes great shows, and our goal is to bring these shows to as many people as possible, in ways that best serve viewers,”- Dan McDermott.
The final season, with its last six episodes, will be aired through the two-episode series format on 19 November. All the upcoming seasons/episodes of Fear the Walking Dead, along with new episodes of season 8, are currently only streaming on AMC+ premieres on Sundays on AMC and AMC+.
