TBS brings back its famous competition series, Wipeout, but this time, the obstacles are only going to get more intense. Season 2 of Wipeout may have the same hosts, but everything else, including the obstacles, has been redesigned to become more exciting and challenging.
John Cena and Nicole Byer, along with Camille Kostek, will be the presenters this time around, too, and Cena likely has a whole new list of jokes already written for the entirety of season 2. It’s the little comedic comments between John and Nicole that always seem to add extra delight to each of the episodes.
The reboot follows the same format, where new contestants show up in every episode and try to complete the long & intriguing obstacle course without ever falling into the waters below. Only those with enough skill and stamina can take home the ultimate prize of $25,000.
Wipeout: About The Show
An obstacle course-centered series, Wipeout features people from different walks of life showing up and trying to win $25,000. Taking inspiration from the 2008 ABC original, this comedy gameshow features some of the largest & brightest obstacle courses in the world.
Instead of having four rounds like the 2008 Wipeout, this TBS adaptation has only three rounds, with each round being filled with new courses. Every round has a different level of complexity.
Each round of Wipeout demands a new strategy and level of skill to complete it in a short amount of time. Having one less round doesn’t mean the new Wipeout is easier, and it can be considered equally, if not more challenging than what we’ve seen in the 2008 series.
Plenty of decision points and intense multi-stage courses are put within the rounds to test the contestant’s stamina to the fullest. While this makes the TBS show competitive, it also provides for many hilarious Wipeout fails and awkward moments from the participants.
One thing has remained constant in both the ABC and TBS versions of Wipeout: the “Big Red Ball” obstacle course. This course never seems to get old and always ends up being a challenging part of the obstacle for many unaware contestants.
Recap
The original Wipeout may have been filled with comedy and entertainment, but the TBS revival didn’t fall behind in its level of fun, either. The new season of Wipeout had started with a group of uniquely talented people, including Bubbleologists, fire performers, and a cool father-daughter duo competing together.
The “Big Ball Energy” episode started with forensic scientists and Radio DJs trying to win each obstacle while hoping home $25,000. This season of Wipeout undeniably had the most memorable contestants, with part-time mermaids and cosplayers being seen competing in the game.
While many new obstacles were introduced to make the revival series more exciting, the older, more nostalgic courses were played routinely in Wipeout’s season 1.
After almost 20 episodes, the first season of Wipeout ended with a redemption episode, where contestants who had failed the game could show up for a 2nd time and give the obstacles another try.
