More About The Show
I grew up straddling two worlds, speaking Spanish at home and English at school, as a first-generation immigrant who picked up English through hip-hop at Malcolm X Elementary. Co-creator, executive producer, and host of the project, Barili revealed in a statement.
He went on, “I was influenced by Calle 13 and El General just as much as I was by E-40 and Outkast.” De La Calle was founded to investigate the ways that Latin America and Spain harbor the same street seeds that gave rise to hip-hop.
Seeing the communities where El Movimiento was born, speaking with the pioneers who were present, and hearing the backstories of today’s and tomorrow’s biggest stars I’m ecstatic to be working with MTV Studios and Paramount+ to introduce De La Calle to a global audience.
Executive producers of De La Calle include Picky Talarico, MTV Entertainment Studios’s Bruce Gillmer and Amanda Culkowski, Christopher Collins, Lydia Tenaglia, Craig H. Shepherd, and Jared Andrukanis for Zero Point Zero Production, and Nick Barili for Hard Knock TV.
In addition to having insightful conversations with the biggest names in Latin music, cultural icons, and other fascinating characters, such as Residente, Sech, Arcangel, Snow Tha Product, Nicky Jam, Renato, Dimelo Flow, Ivy Queen, Vico C, Orishas’ Youtel, Chocquibtown’s Goyo, El Aleman, and Duki, Barili will map out and shed light on a genre that was previously marginalized by society.
In addition to discussing the movement’s ascent, Nick claims that his objective is to highlight the humanity that lies beneath our celebrities. When I turn on the television, I see so much more about our communities than just the depressing clichés. Using the power of music to express our tales couldn’t be more appropriate! Notes he.
Barili tells our publication, “I want to be intentional about humanizing the streets. That’s why I named the series De La Calle.” The music movements also had their roots in the streets. “Most of the individuals I encounter on the street are just hardworking people trying to make ends meet.
However, the widely held misconception that only bad things occur in the streets has been reinforced. For the community with dignity, or “for the community with dignity,” we are taking back the streets.
The program is a component of MTV Entertainment Group’s core mission to promote global communities, diverse stories, and connections. De La Calle is an initiative that aims to bring together Latino urban music from the United States, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, and other countries. As a result, both English and Spanish will be broadcast for the show.
