Discovery Channel’s long-running unscripted adventure reality show about the lives, ups, downs, and challenges of a group of gold miners in the Yukon, Gold Rush Season 14 takes it now on even a grander scale with exploration challenges, unearthing old rivalries, and the usual unexpected twist, all in the hope of each team finding precious gold under the earth they dig.
The season kicked off with Parker Schnabel digging deep —both into his pockets and in the ground— in a 4-acre plot in just three days, exhausting his crew, putting his equipment at the brink of malfunction, all with the “all-in” gamble style of big risk, big rewards.
We saw Tony Beets facing the challenge of moving all his equipment to the Indian River claim, being challenged by barren, windy and muddy terrain with inclement conditions. And we also say the return of Rick, asking Parker for a hand. Now, let’s see what has happened in the last episode.
Recap
We begin our episode at Rick’s dig site as he inspects his yield, around 65 ounces worth of gold from a huge dirt pile. He’s happy and excited. His crew is manipulating the excavators, there’s a bunch of dirt to sift through, but they’re trying to get the work done.
Rick’s pump overloads and smoke billows out of it. The team rushes to check it out. They stumble upon a malfunction concerning oil and coolant. Rick realizes the gasket is busted. That problem sets him back a couple of hundred thousand dollars. Rick manages to get another pump, and must carefully put it in place next to the river bed with a crane. They set it up, the plant is running again, but he’s worried.
We move to Parker Schnabel, whose all-in bet in the Klondike for the Dominion Creek Claim hasn’t made him a dime five weeks in. He’s running out of cash. As Parker manipulates heavy machinery he says he’s running his bank account. He risks going bankrupt before the gold starts flowing.
His crew is stripping ground relentlessly, and the machinery, as well as the crew, feels the pressure. Parker has a plan B, opening a second dig ten miles south, nothing is easy and quick there, they’re short on equipment, and no mechanic, and his crew is feeling the overburden.
Lastly, we moved to Tony Beets’s crew, who drained the flooded terrain and has his excavators work to strip the dirt. Of the three, he’s the one with lesser troubles. One of Tony’s trucks gets stuck in the mud, but with some towing, the operation resumes.
