In the previous chapter, Cale had confided in Rina about his intention to venture into the jungle upon returning to the village. As Chapter 107 of Trash of the Count’s Family begins, readers are eager to find out if Cale will follow through on his proposed expedition.
When introduced, Cale claimed to hail from a minor territory situated in the northernmost region of the Raun kingdom. Rina was surprised to learn Cale was from the north, as she and her warriors inhabited the jungle.
Cale suspected the warriors were obscuring their true identities and backgrounds. He proceeded to tell Rina and the others that he came from a petty noble family. Thanks to his family’s wealth, Cale remarked he never lacked money during his travels and adventures.
Cale also mentioned having his own party, explaining that although he and Ohn entered the jungle by themselves, they were not alone. The chapter is bound to reveal whether Cale manages to carry out his plan to explore the jungle despite the potential risks and unknowns.
Recap and Review
Cale informed Rina and the warriors that despite entering the jungle with just Ohn, he was not alone. He had companions waiting for him outside the jungle who trusted and followed him faithfully.
Cale regaled them with tales of his minor adventures and how he had saved common people throughout his travels. He mentioned obtaining an ancient water-based power that could suppress any flames. This power resided in a necklace and had originally protected the lark.
The Tunka tribe had discovered the water’s fire-squelching capability long ago and drank it, rendering their bodies impervious to fire’s harm. Although the flames would hurt and tax his recovery, Cale could withstand the fire due to the vitality of his heart. Thus, he needn’t utilize the water power.
Cale admitted to Rina he could only tap into a limited reservoir of power. Consequently, its full potential remained uncertain. However, he knew the limit was genuine, as the required water amount equaled that needed to douse a blaze engulfing the entire western continent.
So, for smaller fires, the quantity was sufficient for a lifetime of use. Rina wondered if it was wise for Cale to rely on the power when it had a definite limit.
Cale explained to Rina that the power did not discriminate, so the location was critical. He reasoned that if he could protect the jungle’s nature, plants, and animals, he could also safeguard the lives and homes of its people.
Since it was an ability Cale uniquely possessed, he must be physically present to wield it. He told Rina it would likely take time and prove troublesome, requiring him to approach or enter the fire to utilize it.
Rina protested that would be too perilous, but Cale said he would be overjoyed to employ his power to aid others, as helping everyone was his aim.
Spoilers and Expectations
Rina thanked Cale for his thoughtfulness, but he demurred, stating he had not done much for them yet. Although Cale came to the forest intending to assist, Rina insisted on repaying him.
She explained their community was deeply grateful he was guiding them and willing to brave the flames on their behalf. Moreover, he was expending limited power, so they could not accept his help without giving something in return.
