As seen in the last chapter, artifact appraiser Mr. Ong Myung is nervous about his appraisal duties. If he overcharges for his services, his customers might be in big trouble since superiors might find out. Additionally, he advises them to avoid getting into arguments while talking to someone about the risks.
As the chapter progresses, we see Mr. Hae Jin talking on the phone in the early hours of the day. He receives a call from Vice President Lim Seong Joon requesting that he speak with Hye Yeon. Mr. Hae Jin is taken aback by the unexpected interest in meeting at the Vice President’s residence in Pyeongchang-dong, given that it is still not midday.
When Mr. Hae Jin shows up at the mansion, he apologizes for the last-minute cancellation of their appointment. He is prepared to cover the appraisal fee that Mr. Hae Jin previously got. He acknowledges receiving it. The Vice President is interested in learning why Mr. Hae Jin did not return as scheduled, which was three days later. Let’s see when chapter 19 of Artifact Reading Appraiser is going to be released, the timings, and where to read it.
Recap
In Chapter 18 of the “Artifact Reading Appraiser,” we find ourselves in Seyeon Gallery, where a crucial meeting is about to happen. Ong Myung, an art appraiser, fears the risks associated with his job.
He knows he could get in trouble with his client if he charged too much for an appraisal. In conversation with someone, he suggests that they shouldn’t make things worse.
After a phone call early in the morning, the story shifts to Mr. Hae Jin, the main character. He receives a call from Lim Seong Joon, the Vice President of Seyeon Gallery. Mr. Hae Jin is asked to contact Ms. Hye Yeon by the Vice President and tells her the appraisal has been completed.
He suggests they meet at his mansion in Pyeongchang-dong. Considering it’s still not lunchtime, Mr. Hae Jin is surprised at this sudden schedule change. Lim Seong Joon’s mansion is where Mr. Hae Jin meets with Lim Seong Jin. The Vice President apologizes for changing their plans and confirms that Mr. Hae Jin will receive payment for his previous appraisal.
However, he is curious as to why Mr.Hae Jin didn’t wait for three days to return. His concerns with Buncheong celadon teacup are explained by Mr.Hae Jin. In his view, it might be worth even more than they had anticipated. He reveals that this teacup was stolen over 100 years ago by a Japanese man from the family of a famous Korean general, Yi Sun Shin. Later, it was discovered by Ms. Eunhye.
It shocks the Vice President to learn that the teacup has a link to Admiral Yi Sun Shin. According to Mr. Hae Jin, the teacup has a history, but it is not located in Korea. An heirloom of the Terauchi family, a Japanese family known for preserving information about unregistered historical artifacts, contains the information.
This heirloom confirms the identity of the teacup displayed at the Seyeon Gallery. In light of his lack of authority to request a family heirloom, the Vice President questions the authenticity and significance of this information.
He commends Mr. Hae Jin’s diligence while also accepting his credibility. When Mr. Hae Jin explains how he looked into the Maisaru Electronics attendant and found this information, he recognizes the Japanese link.
The Vice President finds it surprising that Maisaru Electronics has ties to the Terauchi clan. He is impressed by Mr. Hae Jin’s determination to find this important piece of proof.
The Vice President is still apprehensive about the video’s privacy and the restrictions it places despite the important information. Because of Mr. Hae Jin’s perseverance, the Vice President accepts that the teacup would not be traded in for the Buncheong celadon. The Vice President then gives Mr. Hae Jin the choice of receiving a celadon or a teacup as an appraisal fee.
He requests a 50 million won appraisal charge and selects the Buncheong celadon. Vice President Hae Jin concurs, and Mr. Hae Jin is happy with the result. In this chapter, the Vice President’s views on art and antiquities become clearer to us. He has demonstrated his willingness to do so by agreeing to compensate Mr. Hae Jin for his hard work.
This teacup was discovered to be in Ms. Eunhye’s hands after being stolen a long time ago. Although this information intrigues the Vice President, he is hesitant to use it. Mr. Hae Jin looked into the Japanese company Maisaru Electronics for these specifics.
He offers Mr. Hae Jin the teacup or the celadon instead of collecting payment for his appraisal. The Vice President grants Mr. Hae Jin’s request for a 50 million won fee after he selects the celadon. After reading this chapter, Mr. Hae Jin feels comforted and valued because it provides additional insight into his personality and his commitment to art.
