Western television has always been popular but shows like Billy the Kid on Epix stand out for being so true to the actual world. Michael Hirst’s Western drama is based on the life of the infamous “Billy the Kid.”
Most of the series was inspired by the young fugitive’s life, but romantic and exciting elements were added to make Billy the Kid an interesting watch. Billy’s (William H. Bonney) entire story is told in great depth, including everything from his traumatic upbringing to his development into a gunfighter and outlaw.
The first season featured Bonney’s main introduction, which culminated with him taking on Tunstall’s men. The second season will feature the actual horrible deeds Billy is alleged to have committed.
The cast of Billy the Kid’s second season includes Tom Blyth as Billy, Vincent Walsh as Lawrence Murphy, Eileen O’Higgins as Kathleen, and Daniel Webber as Jesse Evans.
Recap
The title for the episode was “Sickness.” While Tunstall is away, Jesse and his group free some horses under the deputy sheriff’s protection. The deputy sheriff then uses his position to intimidate the real sheriff, whom Catron paid for and bought, into leading a posse that will pursue Jesse and his gang for the crime.
This is the episode’s primary action sequence, which ends with the capture of Jesse’s gang and the release of his horses. However, this result is later changed for reasons that will be adequately explained.
There’s a rumor throughout the town that Billy’s girlfriend, Dulcinea, is already engaged, and after witnessing her make out with another man, Billy becomes quite irate. The man he saw her with is actually her brother, as Dulcinea clarifies, but since she was a young girl, it has been planned for her to marry a man from a wealthy family.
Billy is then prompted to make the bold decision to go see Dulcinea’s father and voice his complaints about the idea of an arranged marriage in general. Later on, Dulcinea’s father confides in her about his own marriage to her mother, indicating that his case has merit.
He now feels that having the ability to make one’s own decisions is an essential component of being free in a free nation such as America, and he wants Dulcinea to enjoy that freedom as well. Upon his return from Vegas, Tunstall makes the audacious choice to give his soldiers the order to release Jesse and his group from the local jail. Why would he act in such a way? To put it plainly, fear
When Tunstall was sick with smallpox while in Vegas, Edgar Walz, who was known for “liking the dance,” approached him and essentially threatened to kill him if he didn’t play ball. I think the precise word for this is “the willies” because Tunstall gets so close to his own death and goes home determined to mediate a peace settlement.
The first step in this is to set Jesse and Co. free. Billy is compelled to participate despite his misgivings because he believes that Murphy will be willing to negotiate after making such a sincere effort. The gang is released, and the sheriff is paid to turn a blind eye.
But when Jesse instantly murders one of Tunstall’s men and declares that there will never be peace between the two sides, Tunstall is shown to be a fool. Jesse makes it quite apparent what he thinks, even though he may say that Billy was not killed in cold blood. It will always be war. When the show comes to a close, Tunstall has finally realized this.
He expresses regret to Billy for not listening to Billy’s worries or being upfront with his justifications. As they shake hands, they make the commitment that Tunstall will trust Billy going ahead and that he will always be willing to fight fire with fire, no matter the cost.
