It’s been a few days since Shikhar Dhawan’s divorce case has been ruling the internet. The Indian cricketer’s emotional victory over his marriage also led to some people blaming Bengali women. In case you didn’t know, Shikhar Dhawan was married to the Bengali kickboxer Aesha Mukherjee for nearly a decade. Why did they get divorced?
Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian cricketer who serves as the captain of the Punjab Kings in the IPL. Hailing from New Delhi, he is now 37 years old. For his outstanding performances all the time, he is often regarded as the Mr ICC. As far as Shikhar Dhawan’s role is concerned, he plays as the left-handed opening batsman.
Previously, Shikhar Dhawan has played for various other domestic teams such as Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, etc. When it comes to Shikhar’s achievements in the world of cricket, he won the Champions Trophy in 2013 in England and Wales. Also, he was the recipient of a couple of Asia Cups in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
No doubt, Shikhar Dhawan is very successful in the sports field. However, his personal life seemed to have gotten into trouble, following which he was granted a divorce. What went wrong between him and his estranged wife, Aesha? Here is what we know about Shikhar Dhawan’s divorce case.
Shikhar Dhawan’s Divorce Case: Everything To Know
Sadly, Shikhar Dhawan’s divorce from his long-time wife, Aesha Mukherjee, took place on 5 October 2023. What was the reason? Well, the court said the charges were made on “mental cruelty.” The Family Court of Delhi passed a statement, “For no fault of his own, he had been through immense agony.”
Their divorce news also calls for the discussion of their marriage. The Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and Aesha Mukherjee got hitched in 2012. Little did you know, they have a huge age difference, Aesha being 12 years older than him. After a couple of years of their marriage, more precisely in 2014, they welcomed their son, Zoravar.
Since August 2020, Shikhar and Aesha have been living separately. So, it’s evident that issues didn’t arise this year but from a long time ago.
Concerning the divorce, both parties had their mutual consent. Shikhar Dhawan always shared a very friendly and caring relationship with his son, who is still a minor. As a father, he had sought permanent custody of Zoravar, citing his concerns for the baby’s welfare.
But Zoravar is probably with his mother in Australia and is an Australian citizen, too. Therefore, the court asked Aesha to bring Zoravar to India and visit his father. Also, he is allowed to have sleepovers with him during vacations. In addition to this, Shikhar Dhawan also earned the right to chat with his son over video calls.
Concerning Shikhar Dhawan’s divorce case, the legal battle wasn’t just about their son’s custody but also got stretched to real estate properties. The cricketer claimed that she compelled him to make her the 99% owner of three properties purchased in Australia using his money. Not just that, Aesha also wanted to be joint owners with him for their other properties. It was more like a “mental torture” for him.
Aesha Mukherjee failed to defend the allegations made against her. The court also mentioned that it was she who forced him to stay away from his son for several years. Not just that, she also texted three of his IPL mates to pressure him to make the monthly payments to her. Even though the two didn’t live together, Shikhar Dhawan reportedly sent her INR 13 Crores in 8 years.
Moving on with this, some people have been blaming Bengali women. Don’t you remember Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case? As the investigation went up, the Bengali woman, Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty, became the ultimate culprit.
Similarly, what Aesha did to Shikhar was compared to the same. On this note, one must note that it is very wrong to judge a woman of a particular caste, religion, or nationality. Not all people on this earth are the same, irrespective of their gender.
Best wishes to Shikhar Dhawan for the upcoming days of his life. Not every marriage or relationship is meant to last forever. We believe that everything happens for a reason.
