Netflix’s romantic comedy by Adrian Powers stars Delta Goodrem and Joshua Sasse in a love story that focuses on the lives of a seaplane pilot that does rounds in northern Australia who falls in love with a man that was tasked to shut down her business operations.
The movie premiered on the popular streaming platform in late September and became a bit of a success all over social media because of its plot, only to receive the harsh criticism that low budget romantic comedies tend to receive, full of goofs, and continuity errors that only movie geeks enjoy, Love is In the Air is the kind of “Netflix and Chill” movie that you’d expect to see this season ahead of the October horror marathons.
In any case, today we’re not focusing on the movie’s plot or reception, instead we’re going to shift gears and take a look at some of the filming locations that made this movie come to life.
Love Is In The Air Filming Locations
Love Is In The Air was filmed on location in Australia’s Queensland region. The main photography for this movie, which was shot with the latest 4K technology, took place between February and March 2023.
Fun fact: the production designer went all over Australia’s Queensland region to find ideal places to shoot the movie, and even the director, Adrian Powers, found himself ringing doorbells and telephones to see if they could find a place to shoot the movie.
Queensland, Australia
Queensland is the main place where this movie was shot. In the plot, a seaplane pilot named Dana (played by Delta Goodrem) flies all over northern Australia. This is where Queensland is located, in the northeast of the island continent. Queensland is also the film location for several movies and tv shows like “When Love Springs”, “Ticket To Paradise,” and “Fool’s Gold”.
The production designer and director found a town called Airlie Beach as the main location to film indoors, and they set up shop there for three intense, work-packed weeks. In Airlie Beach, we find two big marinas, The Port of Airlie and the Abel Point Marinas, which served as filming locations indoors and outdoors for this movie.
Queensland is the second-largest state in Australia, with more than 1.8 million square kms, that’s an area that’s almost three times the size of the United Kingdom and Ireland; it’s larger than Japan and Texas.
This region is home to over four million people, and during the filming of Love Is In The Air, the region had a big boost in its economy, that production created jobs, and fueled the local economy for a bit. And considering the region’s beauty, it is likely to have an economic boost again when people visit for the holidays.
Since this is a movie about airplanes, the flick had to have several airport scenes. These were also shot in Queensland’s Whitsunday Airport at Shute Harbour, an airport that serves the tourist region of Airlie Beach and its surroundings.
Here’s a fun fact, Dana’s airplane is a Cessna Turbo Stationair TC. That model of aircraft is about sixteen years old, yet Dana claims in the movie that the aircraft is nearly half a century old.
Queensland’s vast nature escapes are shown in Love is in The Air in its aerial takes. We get to see rainforests like the Daintree region, with more than 180 million years of age, and we also see the Great Barrier Reef from above, that is the world’s largest living organism and is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a tourist magnet in itself.
For a small while in the movie, we see some outdoor shots of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, where almost half of the population of that state lives.
Since Brisbane is so big, it’s no surprise you get to see a bunch of wildlife. If you ever take a trip there, you’ll see koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, crocodiles, and platypus.
