In the previous chapter, that is Chapter 19 of Falling For Danger; we get a glimpse of what exactly went down on the day of the smuggling operation. At the dockyard, Hale is ready with his weapons. He takes out several people at once and easily gets to where the goods are without any trouble.
He wonders why there are so less people manning the goods because it is a huge smuggling operation. He heads to the crates and opens them only to find that the goods crates are empty, and this is just to catch him. He realizes that this whole smuggling operation was fake and was created to catch hold of him.
He turns around to find he is surrounded by people with guns pointing at him. He is cornered and ambushed. To escape, he pulls out a grenade and escapes with just a few scratches on his body.
Just as he makes a narrow escape, the boss arrives at the scene. She is briefed about how skilled Hale is that he took out so many men in little to no time without raising any sound. He also managed to escape, but they caught a glimpse of his face on the CCTV cameras.
The boss, Doutzen, recognizes Hale from the CCTV. Meanwhile, Laine is shocked to see him injured. She tries to find out what happened, but he does not tell her properly. She leaves the first aid kit in his room. Hale is unhappy he cannot take his revenge on Doutzen.
