Still Up is an upcoming British comedy starring Antonia Thomas (Best Known For The Good Doctor, Lovesick, Small Axe) and Craig Roberts (Best Known for Submarine and Red Oaks). Apple announced that the show will premiere on September 22, 2023, with the first three episodes released on the same day.
Created by British actress Natalie Walter and Steve Burge, Still Up follows the relationship between Lisa (Antonia Thomas) and Danny (Craig Roberts). While Lisa is an optimistic illustrator and Danny is a socially anxious journalist, they both have insomnia.
This romantic comedy is set entirely at night as insomniacs Danny and Lisa bare their souls to one another. While the world sleeps, Danny and Lisa spend their long nights talking despite never meeting. And like most romantic comedies, Danny and Lisa end up falling in love with each other. Still Up also stars Blake Harrison as Veggie, Luke Fetherston as Adam, Lois Chimimba as Amy, Samantha Spiro as Veggie’s mother, and Rich Fulcher as Cat Man.
The show is produced by ‘I May Destroy You’ producer Phil Clarke and ‘Twelve Twelve’ producer Paul Schlesinger. Apple has released that the series will premiere on Friday, September 22, with the release of the first three episodes.
Still Up Early Reviews
Still Up is Apple TV Plus’s charming new British comedy that focuses on best friends Danny and Lisa, who are insomniacs. They try to spend their restless nights with zero sleep by talking to each other about everything and nothing, creating a deep and loyal friendship despite ever meeting one another.
Many early reviews have praised the performance of Antonia Thomas, who plays Lisa. The main leads are praised for connecting with the audience and making us fall in love with their romantic relationship without ever meeting one another in person.
Besides Danny and Lisa’s relationship, the show also focuses on Lisa’s partner, Veggie, and Danny’s neighbor, Adam, trying to help Danny (who might be developing agoraphobia) get out of his house and become more social.
Overall, Still Up has all of the charm that British romantic comedies are known for, along with good writing, excellent performances, and some funny moments.
